Summary:

Provides quality care and meets customer expectations by utilizing advanced technical skills in Mammographic imaging.

Responsibilities:

1. Radiation Safety Criteria A: Follow ALARA principles and scans patient with appropriate exposure and minimal repeatability. Radiation Safety Criteria B: Always wears radiation badge(s) to track personal exposure. Radiation Safety Criteria C: Verifies pregnancy status in appropriate patient population and obtains waiver as needed. Radiation Safety Criteria D: Notes all repeat/rejected images in the appropriate manner.
2. Patient Identification and Screening Criteria A: Properly identifies patients by name/DOB as well as introducing himself/herself to the patient by first name. Patient Identification and Screening Criteria B: Reviews prescription and protocol for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. Patient Identification and Screening Criteria C: Advises patient on proper exam preparation including removal of deodorant/lotion, removal of jewelry and appropriate attire. Patient Identification and Screening Criteria D: Explains procedure, answers questions/concerns and follows-up with patient when necessary.
3. Image Acquisition Criteria A: Determines technical factors for correct calculated exposure and sets appropriate compression values. Image Acquisition Criteria B: Proficient in positioning all routine and technically challenging views to obtain optimal quality. Image Acquisition Criteria C: Covers appropriate anatomy and utilizes proper imaging parameters including mole and scar markers. Image Acquisition Criteria D: Monitors and communicates with the patient throughout the exam.
4. Workflow and Data Accuracy Criteria A: Respects scheduled appointment times and communicates delays to reception staff and/or patients directly. Workflow and Data Accuracy Criteria B: Reviews charge entry, edits exam or notifies appropriate administrative staff with necessary changes. Workflow and Data Accuracy Criteria C: Completes charge sheet accurately ensuring the CPT4 code matches the exam performed. Workflow and Data Accuracy Criteria D: Starts and completes examination in ADS workflow, checks-in breast ultrasound and includes complete and accurate notes to the Sonographer.
5. Exam Completion Criteria A: Evaluates Mammographic images for technical quality, repeats images as necessary and verifies images in PACS. Exam Completion Criteria B: Performs required post processing and/or transfers appropriate images to dedicated workstations. Exam Completion Criteria C: Ensures prior exams and reports are available for comparison. Exam Completion Criteria D: Provides correct forms/documentation and concise relevant history to the Radiologist for interpretation.
6. Magview Entry and Patient Tracking Criteria A: Selects correct patient and updates necessary clinical history. Magview Entry and Patient Tracking Criteria B: Enters pertinent notes relating to present exam and indicates the reason for exam/location of concern. Magview Entry and Patient Tracking Criteria C: Resolves prior examinations accurately. Magview Entry and Patient Tracking Criteria D: Indicates when shielding was utilized.
7. Infection Control Criteria A: Follows universal precautions including the use of gloves, gowns and masks as appropriate. Infection Control Criteria B: Cleans and disinfects between each patient and can perform/document high level disinfection appropriately. Infection Control Criteria C: Consistently indicates in Magview that infection control was completed prior to the start of the exam. Infection Control Criteria D: Keeps work area, waiting rooms and dressing rooms clean and tidy and stocks work area with laundry and medical supplies on a daily basis.
8. Quality Control Criteria A: Maintains Mammography, Stereotactic and/or Bone Density Department quality control standards and updates all necessary logs. Quality Control Criteria B: Initiates equipment service requests and notifies supervisor as necessary. Quality Control Criteria C: Actively participates in Time Out procedures required for certain exams. Quality Control Criteria D: Able to perform quality control tests per ACR requirements and reboot/shutdown systems per manufacturer guidelines.
9. Responding to Urgent Situations Criteria A: Able to recognize specific psychological (ie. anxiety) and/or physical needs of patients and determine when further assistance is needed. Responding to Urgent Situations Criteria B: Promptly responds to situations which require a timely response and documents relevant information on incident forms. Responding to Urgent Situations Criteria C: Able to locate and use all necessary emergency equipment (code cart, oxygen, blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter, etc). Responding to Urgent Situations Criteria D: Able to initiate emergency response policy.
10. Miscellaneous Criteria A: Functions as a Technologist in other modalities (X-Ray, Stereotactic Biopsy, Bone Density) upon supervisor request and skill level. Miscellaneous Criteria B: Able to operate all equipment correctly and efficiently. Miscellaneous Criteria C: Active participation in maintaining break room cleanliness. Miscellaneous Criteria D: Willingly performs other tasks to assist ancillary personnel pertaining to patient care.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
12. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

Education: HS GRAD/EQUIVALENT

Other Information:

Required: Graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology Minimum of 1 year of Mammography experience (GE preferred)
Minimum Experience: one year

Desired: ARRT Certification in Radiography ARRT Certification in Mammography within 1 year of hire CT State License CPR Maintain continuing education requirements (24 CE credits per biennium) Maintain MQSA requirements (15 CE Mammo specific credits every 3 years) Possesses excellent knowledge of anatomy and physiology Exhibits a degree of professionalism necessary to instill patient confidence Maintains a positive attitude and demonstrates respect and courtesy


Computer Skills Required: Able to utilize PACS, RIS systems, Mammography tracking systems and any other required computer programs.

Working Conditions:
