Summary:
The Staff Perfusionist 1 primary responsibility is to conduct cardiopulmonary bypass for patients undergoing bypass surgery. Participates in all activities related to overall operation of the department, specifically data collection and management, laboratory management and equipment readiness. The perfusionist will be available to consult with the medical staff on all perfusion related technologies.
Responsibilities:
1. Operates the heart-lung machine and provides safe cardiovascular support for patients cardiac and some non-cardiac surgical procedures.
2. Monitors and manages all appropriate hemodynamic and metabolic parameters in the conduct of Cardiopulmonary Bypass (CPB).
3. Records all relevant data during CPB and maintains those records in accordance with the practice and policies of the institution.
4. Performs preventative maintenance of all equipment and records all such maintenance.
5. Responsible for practicing in accordance within the accceptable standards of perfusion practice.
6. Provides autotransfusion/blood conservation techniques during cardiac and non-cardiac procedures as requested.
7. Participates in research as requested. Assists in the development and implementation of research protocols.
8. Participates in the management of a Moderately Complex (CLIA-Defined) blood testing laboratory for the purpose of providing Point of Care testing intraoperatively for the cardiac surgical patient.
9. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: BACHELOR'S LVL DGRE
Other Information:
Required: Board certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion, or eligible (must be attained within 6 months from hire). New hires must accumulate 50 cases to sit for the boards. Until certified, candidate works under the direction of a preceptor.
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Minimum Experience: one year
Desired: Comprehensive knowledge of perfusion techniques; an understanding of the related physiology; the ability to assess the patient's status and manage the situation appropriately. Clinical experience in the conduct of Adult Perfusion preferred.
