Trauma Registrar

Summary:
Operational responsibility for the Norwalk Hospital Trauma Registry, including data collection on all trauma patients and downloading data to the State of CT central repository. Includes abstracting patient records, coding and generating reports.
Responsibilities:
1. Data collection Criteria A: Collects and screens pertinent patient data for Trauma Registry Data collection Criteria B: Extracts data from the patient medical records to enter into the Registry.
2. Data entry Criteria A: Enters trauma data into registry and downloads appropriate data to State within mandated time frames Data entry Criteria B: Ensures accuracy of transmitted data Data entry Criteria C: Maintains file backups Data entry Criteria D: Ensures confidentiality of patient data
3. Data analysis Criteria A: Prepares routine and statistical reports upon request Data analysis Criteria B: Prepares narative reports as directed Data analysis Criteria C: Responds/processes all trauma queries Data analysis Criteria D: Identifies variances from ACS criteria
4. Administrative support Criteria A: Prepares and distributes correspondence, memos and Trauma Rounds information Administrative support Criteria B: Processes incoming communications (mail, fax, phone) Administrative support Criteria C: Maintains data collection/QA/peer review standards in absence of trauma coordinator Administrative support Criteria D: Represents hospital at State Trauma Registrar functions when necessary
5. Computer skills Criteria A: Demonstrates proficiency and knowledge in Word, Excel, Cerner, Docutreev, Cerner and PowerPoint Computer skills Criteria B: Establishes and maintains databases Computer skills Criteria C: Demonstrates proficiency in use of correct grammar, punctuation and medical terminology.
6. Professional growth Criteria A: Participates in continuing education/professional activities
7. Communication Criteria A: Maintains open communication with all Department of Surgery customers Communication Criteria B: Liason with DI Collector vendor
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
9. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
Education: ASSOCIATE'S LVL DGRE
Other Information:
Required: Two years of college and knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of ICD-9 coding and/or previous registry experience. Strong computer skills including data entry, word processing, creating queries. Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
Minimum Experience: zero to six months
Desired: Must have working knowledge of the State of CT Trauma system and previous experience with data/research.

Physical Effort: Sedentary/light effort. May exert up to 10 lbs. force
