Summary:

Manages the Nursing and operational functions of New Milford Hospital on varied shifts. Supports the overall care delivery of the Nursing Department in coordination with the Nurse Managers. Maintains the schedule and staffing in the absence of the Nurse Manager. Collaborates with the Charge RN as well as other department charge personnel. Directs patient care in the absence of the Nurse Manager. Contributes to the overall budget goals. Participates in operational meetings. Reviews patient charts for quality compliance to support the nurse Manager and improve patient care. Participates in compliance and staff education. Oversees and directs care and facility needs on off hours. Supports unit and hospital goals. Communicates with Leadership team routinely. Primary responsibility for New Milford Hospital and its facilities on evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays.

Responsibilities:

1. Supports and enforces current hospital clinical and admnistrative policies and procedures, JCAHO standards, CT State Department of Health Codes, and other state and federal legislation/law.
2. Reports all unusual occurrences to the "Administrator on Call", documents as appropriate.
3. Coordinates all nursing units with respect to schedules, assignments, and quality of care on a 24 hour basis (with Nurse Managers) and documents as appropriate.
4. Counsels employees in priority-setting and problem-solving and makes referrals to appropriate resources with documentation. May conduct performance evaluations or provide input on staff performance.
5. Participates in follow-up/support during clinical orientation/education.
6. Uses knowledge and experience to continuously contribute to the development of nursing department goals and objectives.
7. Supplements and/or obtains supplies, equipment, medications, and/or medical records, etc. to facilitate the delivery of quality patient care.
8. Observes and supports a safe working environment and reports concerns/issues to Safety Officer and/or Infection Control Coordinator.
9. Strives to work within the budgetary limits and within organizational cost guidelines.
10. Demonstrates effective human relation skills that promote and maximize communication with patients, families, the healthcare team, and the community.
11. Ensures compliance with the Union contract.
12. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Information:

Required: Strong leadership, critical thinking and communication skills. Must be able to problem solve and effectively resolve conflict across all departments in organization.
Minimum Experience: five years
Desired: Master of Science (preferred in Nursing). Advanced nursing specialty certification.
