The Opportunity
- Location: San Jose, CA (Hybrid, minimum 3 days/week on-site)

- Pay Range: USD $37.00 – USD $61.00 per hour
Spend your summer building software that powers real-world technology at scale. As a Software Engineer Intern, you will join one of our software development teams and contribute to a project focused on a specific area of Nutanix technology, working alongside experienced software engineers and technical experts. This hands-on internship emphasizes project ownership and deep technical learning, allowing you to apply classroom knowledge to software design, development, testing, debugging, and performance optimization. You’ll receive mentorship and guidance as you build solutions that improve the functionality, efficiency, and scalability of our products.

About the Team
Our software development teams work across a range of projects spanning Nutanix’s technology stack. Depending on the team you join, your internship will focus on a specific area—such as open-source hypervisors, multi-cloud and hybrid-cloud database engines, virtual machine dynamic scheduling, software-defined networking, distributed systems and storage, platform deployment, Linux kernel development, or storage performance and scale.
Your Role
- Software Development: Apply your technical knowledge to design, develop, test, and enhance software for real-world projects focused on product functionality, performance, and efficiency.
- Engineering Practices: Work alongside experienced software engineers to strengthen your skills in development tools, technologies, debugging, testing, and code quality.
- Project Execution: Partner with a mentor to define project objectives, establish key results, and deliver measurable technical outcomes.
- Technical Growth: Expand your expertise through hands-on training, technical mentorship, and collaboration with experienced engineering professionals.
What You Will Bring
- Education: Currently enrolled in a full-time, degree-seeking program at an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, System Administration, or a related technical program.
- Including: An anticipated graduation date between December 2027 and August 2028.
- Backend & Systems Experience: Experience with backend or data-centric programming, along with coursework in two or more systems areas such as operating systems, parallel programming, distributed systems, or database management systems.
- Programming & Problem-Solving: Fluency in at least one of Java, C++, Python, or Golang, with a strong passion for solving complex technical problems.

- Logistics: Ability to work from our San Jose, CA offices a minimum of 3 days per week (Hybrid model).

Pay Transparency
The pay range for this position at the commencement of employment is expected to be between USD $37.00 and USD $61.00 per hour.
However, the base pay offered may vary based on several individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will position," and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors. Work Arrangement
This role operates in a hybrid capacity, blending the benefits of remote work with the advantages of in-person collaboration. In locations where our workplace policy applies (i.e. San Jose, Durham, Mexico City, Vancouver, Bangalore, Pune, Hoofddorp, Belgrade, Barcelona, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo), employees are expected to work onsite a minimum of 3 days per week to foster collaboration, team alignment, and access to in-office resources.
