Job Title: Member of Technical Staff - 3 (MTS-3), Prism Engineering

About the Team

The Prism team is responsible for Nutanix's core management and control plane. We build the distributed systems that power the Nutanix hybrid multi-cloud experience, enabling seamless management of infrastructure, virtual machines, and clusters. As a team, we take pride in tackling complex problems related to scale, high availability, and API design, ensuring our customers have a robust, secure, and intuitive platform to manage their enterprise infrastructure.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Member of Technical Staff-3 (MTS-3) to join our Prism Engineering team. In this role, you will be a technical leader driving the design, architecture, and implementation of critical components within the Prism control plane. You will focus heavily on building scalable distributed systems, shaping the next generation of our APIs (v3/v4), and fortifying our system upgrade and deployment workflows to ensure zero-downtime operations for our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Software Development: Design, implement, test, and maintain backend services and platform components within the Prism control plane.

  • API Design & Development: Design and implement robust, secure, and performant RESTful APIs that serve both internal components and external customers.

  • Distributed Systems Design and Architecture: Develop scalable and reliable distributed system components while learning and applying best practices around consistency, availability, fault tolerance, and observability.

  • System Upgrades & Lifecycle Management: Architect and improve critical system upgrade paths, ensuring resilient and seamless deployment workflows across distributed clusters.

  • Feature Ownership: Independently own the implementation and delivery of medium-sized features from design through testing and production readiness.

  • Quality & Reliability: Write comprehensive unit and integration tests, participate in code reviews, troubleshoot production issues, and contribute to improving service reliability and operational excellence.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with product management, QA, and other engineering teams to understand requirements, refine designs, and deliver high-quality software on schedule.

  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to engineering best practices, automation, CI/CD improvements, and technical documentation. 

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience: 4+ years of professional software development experience building backend systems or distributed applications. 

  • Programming Languages: Proficiency in Golang is highly desirable. Proficiency in one or more of Java or Python is highly desirable.

  • API Expertise: Experience building REST APIs and/or gRPC services is a must. Familiarity with API versioning, authentication, and service integration is desirable.

  • Knowledge of AI Tools: Ability to work in an development environment and lifecycle driven by Agentic AI tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, etc.

  • Operating Systems: Good understanding of Linux/Unix fundamentals, multithreaded programming, networking concepts, and debugging tools.

  • Platforms: Experience with containers, Kubernetes, or cloud-native application development is a plus. 

  • Security: Experience in working with TLS, x509 certificates, authentication and certificate management systems is a plus.

  • Software Engineering Practices: Experience with unit testing, integration testing, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development practices.

  • Problem Solving: Good analytical and debugging skills, with the ability to dive deep into complex, multi-node system failures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
