The Opportunity

We are currently looking for an experienced distributed systems Engineer to help us deliver a core data platform service that will be consumed by the internal product/app engineering teams as well as Nutanix customers.

 

About the Team

At Nutanix, you will be joining the CPaaS team, comprising 20 members located in Bangalore, Pune, and the US. This dynamic team plays a crucial role in accelerating the time-to-market for Nutanix products by leveraging OSS technologies like Kubernetes, ArgoCD, and Istio. They are focused on a lot of research work, are highly innovative and focused on empowering the  product teams with common data and compute services while maintaining a cloud-agnostic approach.

You will report to a Staff Engineer who provides guidance and mentorship to help you excel in your role. The work setup at Nutanix is hybrid, requiring you to be in the office for 2 days a week. This setup allows for a balanced approach to brainstorm together in and at the same time and also provides time for focused  work.

 

Your Role

  • Build and optimize distributed data systems that can scale for large volumes of data. 
  • Architect, design and develop Web-scale libraries and services. 
  • Keep an eye out for latest technology trends, open-source projects that can be leveraged, and make contributions back to the open-source projects.
  • Build, scale & maintain internal-facing platforms that will be used by multiple engineering teams.


 

 

What You Will Bring

  • Love for programming and rock-solid in one or more languages: C++ or Go. 
  • Good understanding of data structure and algorithms. 
  • Understands multiple open-source distributed database systems and its tradeoff and is capable of leveraging the right tool for the right use cases.
  • Can understand the requirements and is capable of mapping it to right databases, knobs etc
  • Understand data layer scaling issues and come up with product (open source) solutions.
  • Familiarity with OS internals, concepts of distributed data management, and design/ implementation tradeoffs in building clustered, high-performance, fault-tolerant distributed systems software.
  • Experience in working with large codebases or contribution to open source.
  • Good knowledge of Systems Networking and distributed systems.
  • Experience in one of the Time Series / analytics databases is a huge plus. 
  • Experience in docker and kubernetes is a huge plus.
  • Familiarity with consensus protocols (Paxos/Raft/ZAP) and systems (Zookeeper) is a huge plus.
  • Familiarity in designing and deploying applications on a datacenter or one of the clouds - AWS, Azure, or GCP is a huge plus.
  • Prior contribution to open source databases is a huge plus.
  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science or related field required. 
  • 3-6 years of experience designing and developing web-scale software applications.
