Brief Description:

The Technical Writer and Editor will work directly with engineers from teams that cover the technical aspects of Nutanix products and services to create, update, and improve customer-facing and internal documentation for solutions that run on Nutanix software. The ideal candidate has an interest in computing and IT, is detail oriented, enjoys working and problem-solving independently with appropriate guidelines, communicates confidently and considerately with coworkers from around the world, and works well within deadlines. Candidates should have the flexibility to learn new products, terminologies, and technologies quickly and the versatility to move from project to project as needed.

Description:

Responsibilities:

  • Work with engineering, technical marketing, services, and product management staff to develop, write, and edit best practice guides, reference architectures (longer documents testing technical aspects of a solution), and other technical papers relating to Nutanix products and features.
  • Proofread text, figures, and tables for consistency, correctness, ease of use, and style guide compliance.
  • Peer review other writers’ work.
  • Publish one text source in multiple formats and check outputs for completeness and accuracy.
  • Gather information from team meetings, product specifications, and interviews with subject matter experts.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Gather and address feedback from multiple sources.
  • Work independently and rapidly to meet tight deadlines.

 Required Skills:

  • Familiarity with online content management systems (such as SharePoint or GitHub) for collaboration and version control.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word review tools and text styles.
  • Ability to follow organizational and industry standards and style guides (such as the Microsoft Writing Style Guide or the Chicago Manual of Style).
  • Experience using a publishing program or platform to convert plain text into a finished product. (Website design counts!)
  • Experience tracking and prioritizing multiple simultaneous projects.

Preferred Skills:

  • Customer service or support experience.
  • Experience with Markdown or other lightweight markup language.
  • Basic familiarity with structured content.
  • Basic familiarity with UNIX/Linux command-line interfaces.
  • Basic capability with graphic software (such as Photoshop or GIMP) and diagram creation (such as Visio) tools.

Required Background:

  • BS or BA in technical/professional communication, English, journalism, or related field. (An equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered.)
  • 1+ years' experience working in an office environment (in any capacity).
  • Demonstrated experience with technical content and writing for different audiences.
