About the office
The University Library consists of six libraries networked across Australia. While the individual libraries are managed locally, they report nationally to the University Librarian and work collaboratively across campuses.
The Library Technician is based at the Fremantle campus and reports to the Senior Access Librarian. The role plays a key part in ensuring the delivery of high-quality access services, including loans, document delivery, acquisitions support, and first point-of-contact services.
About the role
This role provides front-line support to university staff and students by delivering library services and handling a wide range of enquiries.
The position also supports the daily operations of the Library, including helping users access materials, maintaining collections, digitising content, copy cataloguing, processing resources, managing resource sharing, and contributing to library projects and other tasks as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Support students and staff with borrowing library materials, and assist with general questions and research support.
- Assist with acquisitions, cataloguing, processing, serials fulfilment and maintaining library resources.
- Support the delivery of research and information skills instruction.
- Supervise casual staff and ensure tasks are completed effectively.
- Support improvement of library procedures and training of staff to follow them correctly.
- Maintain an understanding of the library service, including staff roles, systems, and policies.
- Take on other duties or training as needed by your supervisor.
- Always follow relevant university policies and act with professionalism.
Qualifications, skills & experience
- Completion of a relevant formal qualification with relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
- Knowledge of the principles of library information services and a demonstrated ability to follow and interpret policies, procedures and standards.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the processes required to obtain scholarly information resources and to provide access to these resources.
- Demonstrated ability to apply high level communication, customer service and interpersonal skills (both verbal and written), and the demonstrated ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with staff at all levels of the organisation.
- Demonstrated ability to display initiative and reliability, assume responsibility for tasks and projects and to resolve problems.
- Effective time management and organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, solve problems, meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
- The ability to work cooperatively with others to accomplish joint tasks and common objectives.
- Demonstrated proficiency in using and promoting a range of information technology.
- Skilled in using and promoting various digital tools and technologies.
- Supportive of the Objects of Notre Dame as a Catholic University.
