About the role

The National School of Medicine seeks to appoint lecturers and senior lecturers in medicine to undertake the role of Group Tutors in the Foundation Years of the Doctor of Medicine program based at the Darlinghurst Site of the National School of Medicine, Sydney. These include Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Tutoring, Communication and Clinical Skills sessions, Clinical Debriefing sessions and other learning opportunities. This role reports to the Head of Foundation Years.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the following sessions in each week of the academic year with the allocated group of students:
  • problem based learning tutorials
  • clinical debriefing tutorial
  • clinical and communication skills training sessions;
  • Participate in assessment and evaluation activities including marking and providing feedback in collaboration with the Assessments team.
  • Attend meetings and professional development sessions as required by the Head of Foundation Years and the School.
  • Participate in performance development activities as required by the school.
  • Consult with students in relation to readings, weekly topics and assessment.
  • Provide a high level of pastoral care to students
  • Comply with policies and procedures in all aspects of their work and conduct, in particular Staff Code of Conduct.
  • Other duties as directed by the line manager, National Head of School or delegate

Qualifications, skills & experience

  • Lecturer position: Possession of a Medical qualification registrable with AHPRA and a Fellowship of a relevant professional body or a PhD in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience in teaching at master's level or higher or in medical, health or professional practice-based education settings.
  • High level of interest in medical education and experience in teaching in small group tutorials.
  • Keen interest in maintaining currency in scholarship and professional practice.
  • Ability to, or a willingness to learn how to incorporate technology (e.g. Blackboard, Zoom, email, internet) into teaching and learning.
  • Ability to deliver quality learning and teaching practices in multiple modes including online delivery.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Ability to assess priority of tasks, manage workload and meet deadlines, in a busy education environment.
  • Evidence of a high level of pastoral care to students.
