About the office
The Finance Office plays an integral role in the success of the University ensuring responsible stewardship through financial performance and strategic procurement, with a view to financial sustainability and growth.
About the role
This position is responsible for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of financial accounting records, ensuring timely reporting and statutory compliance, managing treasury functions, and upholding robust internal controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review financial statements and taxation reports to ensure accurate and timely reporting that supports strong financial outcomes for the University.
- Monitor and implement changes in financial, tax, and reporting regulations, providing expert advice on their implications and recommended actions.
- Analyse and communicate the tax and accounting impact of university initiatives and transactions to stakeholders across the business.
- Lead the completion of assigned financial reporting requirements and ensure compliance with internal financial control systems.
- Develop and maintain cash forecasting models to support long-term planning for investments, borrowing, and overall financial strategy.
- Collaborate with auditors during audit and year-end processes and support the Business Partnering Team with month-end financial accounting activities.
Qualifications, skills & experience
- CPA/CA or other relevant postgraduate qualifications or progress toward a relevant postgraduate qualification, combined with extensive experience in financial accounting within a complex organisation providing financial accounting services.
- Strong knowledge of AASB, IFRS, and Australian tax legislation including GST, FBT, and Payroll Tax.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated expertise in financial modelling, budgeting, and forecasting, with high-level numeracy and reconciliation skills and strong attention to detail.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of developing innovative solutions to complex financial challenges.
- Exceptional time management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and lead process improvements independently.
