Description

The Banista role is a community-oriented position based at the Banana Sands, often in outdoor environments. Banista's provide exceptional 5-star customer service, ensuring a great experience for all visitors. You will greet guests warmly, restock inventory, track daily metrics, and quickly communicate any urgent issues. By engaging with the community, Banista's foster a fun, friendly atmosphere. The position will involve working at various banana stand locations from 7:15 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends, evenings, or offsite events. Banista's may also take on special projects and additional tasks as needed.

Location: Seattle (South Lake Union) and Bellevue, WA
Schedule: Part-Time 24-29 hrs per week | Monday - Friday between 7:15am-3:45pm & Saturdays (1st and 3rd of the month) between 8AM - 4PM
Starting Wage: $22.45 per hour | Full Wage Range: $22.45 - $26.72 per hour

What You Will Do

  • Arrive on time in the provided Banista uniform, ready to work.
  • Assist with daily setup and teardown of the stand, ensuring items are organized.
  • Greet every visitor warmly and provide a 5-star experience.
  • Select appropriate music to play during operating hours.
  • Unload and sort bananas, keeping crates full and removing damaged fruit.
  • Maintain a clean and organized stand, monitoring and emptying the compost bin as needed.
  • Track daily metrics using specified software and document public feedback.
  • Participate in monthly inventory counts and support banana stand openings.
  • Assist with redistributing bananas between stands as needed.
  • Suggest operational improvements and attend training sessions.
  • Learn FAQs and banana facts to share with visitors.
  • Decorate the stand for holidays with approved designs.
  • Communicate urgent issues to supervisors and follow security protocols.
  • Work at various banana stand locations from 7:15 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday to Friday, with occasional after-hours and weekend shifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Who You Are

  • GED or high school diploma required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of customer service experience.
  • Commitment to Northwest Center’s mission of inclusion and ability to work in diverse environments.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and in various settings.
  • Basic math skills for handling 3-digit equations.
  • Ability to recall training information and banana distribution trends.
  • Proficient in MS Windows, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of NWC and client policies.
  • Effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to stay calm in emergencies and stressful situations.
  • Attention to detail and sound judgment.
  • Open to change and creative in carrying out responsibilities.

 

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift bananas and stack boxes up to 50 lbs. repetitively.
  • Must be able to work in conditions below 40 degrees for up to 3 hours or up to 90 degrees. 
  • May need to carry supplies to other buildings. 
  • Ability to walk consistently within a 1.5 radius is required. 
  • Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend the English language 
  • Ability to see both distance and details at close range, within a few feet of the observer (with or without corrective lenses). 
  • Ability to identify and understand the speech of another person (with or without a personal auditory hearing device). 
  • This is a dog friendly environment with over 1000 dogs on campus. Individuals with dog allergies or those who do not particularly care for dogs may not be the best fit. 
  • Must be able to handle bananas and/or various food products without allergic reaction. 
  • Must be able to work in conditions below 40 degrees for up to 3 hours or up to 90 degrees.
