Quality Assurance Lead

To establish a Quality Assurance (QA) Practice for the company by developing effective and efficient methods, documentation standards, and training/communication.  The QA Lead will establish a practice that delivers reliable and consistent project delivery that creates a positive end user experience with Business Technology projects.



  1. Develops, implements, performs, and manages standard quality assurance (QA) processes and procedures.
  2. Leads day-to-day QA activities associated with projects by coordinating with project teams to plan, design, and execute (as needed) testing activities for multiple projects.
  3. Participates in the creation and management of test strategies, plans and schedules.
  4. Validates and coordinates the availability and assignment of resources for testing efforts as well as define testing roles and responsibilities.
  5. Ability to build relationships within IT and Business areas.
  6. Advises, mentors, trains, and assists testers as needed on the creation of test cases to ensure that quality assurance standards and methods are being adhered to.
  7. Proactively identifies, communicates, and manages testing risks.
  8. Validates completion and recording of results for QA and user acceptance tests.
  9. Establishes standards for test status, progress, and defect reporting and own report delivery and monitoring during projects.
  10. Performs defect management including prioritizing and coordinating defect resolution for projects.
  11. Coordinates recreating and analyzing issues found during testing and hyper care phases of projects.
  12. Develops strategy and business case for future Automated Testing Tools.
  13. Plans and leads cross functional team meetings.
  14. Develops strong knowledge of Northern Tool business processes.
  15. Keep supervisor informed of important developments, potential problems, and related information necessary for effective management. Coordinate and communicate plans and activities with others, as appropriate, to ensure a coordinated work effort and team approach.

  • Bachelor’s degree or minimum of 2-year post high school degree in business, computer science, communication, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of related experience required.
  • Retail experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with global QA teams is preferred.
  • Experience in testing eCommerce, Point of Sale, ERP, Portal and/or Software as a Service (SaaS) applications, mobile/desktop websites, or other enterprise class applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to create test plans, scripts and use case scenarios and to execute functional, integration, end-to-end, user-acceptance and regression testing.
  • Experience with project workflow and issue tracking systems required, such as Azure DevOps and JIRA (or comparable).
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and processes of quality assurance testing and the ability to apply knowledge and skills to a range of professional assignments including the most difficult and complex.
  • Experience building a Quality Assurance discipline within an organization is preferred.
  • Dedicated to developing routine tests and able to coordinate testing across the organization in an agile or waterfall methodology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of Company personnel.
  • Demonstrated strong business acumen.
