Senior QA Analyst

The Sr QA Analyst creates a positive experience in the implementation and use of technology by ensuring products meet business and technical requirements. Sr QA Analysts will participate throughout the product lifecycle with the objective of finding bugs before production releases coming from projects, enhancements, and issue resolutions.


1.       Participate in the creation, maintenance and management of test plans, test suites, estimation and test artifacts and test cases within a test management system for manual and/or automated testing.

2.       Execute manual or automated testing using documented test cases as determined by the test plan.

3.       Perform troubleshooting to identify the root cause of test case failures and logging them as bugs in tracking system.

4.       Adhere to Northern Tool QA testing standards and participate in quality improvements to these standards. Implement Industry Best QA practices.

5.       Apply a risk-based testing approach when planning and writing test cases for project.

6.       Work with the Business Systems Analyst team to fully understand the product and our business processes so effective and efficient test cases can be written.

7.       Participate in all aspects of the SDLC including reviewing system requirements and design document to identify bugs early in the process. Complete Requirements Traceability Matrix to ensure requirements are covered by one or more test cases.

8.       Apply industry best practices and Northern Tool standards when writing test cases to ensure consistent, detailed tests with appropriate coverage and ensure testing techniques are implemented while writing test cases.

9.       Work with BSAs, business users and/or QA Lead to identify the project test cases that need to be regression test cases for the long term. Maintain the regression test bed.

10.   Write test cases for automation candidates using standards defined by automation test team members.

11.   Participate in identifying tests that would be good automation candidates.

12.   Proactively identify, communicate, and manage testing risks.

13.   Implement best practice techniques and processes to reduce test case maintenance (eg. Shared test steps, parameters, etc.)

14.   Develop strong knowledge of Northern Tool business processes.

15.   Perform related work as apparent or assigned.

  • 5+ years of professional testing experience.
  • Experience with project workflow and issue tracking systems, such as Azure DevOps or JIRA (or comparable) required.
  • Experience in testing eCommerce, Point of Sale, ERP, Portal and/or Software as a Service (SaaS) applications, mobile/desktop websites, or other enterprise class applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to create test plans, test cases and use case scenarios to execute functional, integration, end-to-end, user-acceptance and regression testing.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and processes of quality assurance testing and the ability to apply knowledge and skills to a range of professional assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of company personnel.
  • Demonstrated strong business acumen.
  • Retail experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrates Northern Tool + Equipment’s 12 Core Competencies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline; or related experience.
