PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:

To oversee the Fort Mill Distribution Center functions to ensure consistent and efficient receipt, storage and shipment of goods to other Company operations and customers in a manner which will enable the Company to achieve established sales and profit goals.

 

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

 

  1. Establishes goals and guidelines intended to improve warehouse methods and procedures, work requirements and schedules, distribution quality, safety and operating costs. 
  2. Works with Senior Vice President of Inventory Planning & Logistics to monitor approved goals for compliance, takes appropriate corrective action when needed and communicates recommendations for changes or updates when necessary.
  3. Provides direction and guidance over Distribution Center operations to ensure the accuracy, timely receipt, stocking of Company merchandise, timely picking and shipping of goods, an engaged workforce and an acceptable level of high-quality performance is achieved.  
  4. Works with leaders of other Distribution Centers to ensure best practices and create continuous process improvement.
  5. Partners with Store and E-Comm Operators to ensure Service Levels are being effectively executed.
  6. Monitors established safety programs for compliance using Company requirements and Occupational Safety Health Administration regulations.  Directs maintenance and monitoring of housekeeping standards to promote safe and efficient operations and directs changes and updates where necessary and needed. 
  7. Monitors day to day warehouse operations for efficiency.  Develops plans for improvements, owns changes in operations and equipment & implements plans.
  8. Ensures that an adequate inventory of shipping and other warehouse supplies is maintained. 
  9. Partners with Labor Relations to ensure compliance with union contract and day to day employee relations issues.
  10. Partners with location Human Resource Business Partner to ensure best practices and drive engagement of employees. Owns Employee Engagement and Team Development activities.
  11. Monitors building security procedures to ensure high standards are maintained for the Distribution Center and its contents. Recommends updates or changes when needed. 
  12. Directs management work assignments and areas of responsibility. Monitors their progress in meeting directive and goals to ensure that warehouse operations are performed in a smooth and efficient manner.
  13. Maintains working knowledge of current trends, methods and new developments in the distribution industry by attending available classes or seminars. Ensures all legal requirements are complying and the most efficient and economical methodology is utilized.
  14. Manages support personnel as it relates to all projects or related work.  Establishes performance requirements, clarifies responsibilities of those supervised, conducts performance appraisals and plans for individual employee development.
  15. Keeps the network informed of important developments, potential problems, and related information necessary for effective management.  Coordinates/communicates plans and activities with others, as appropriate to ensure a coordinated work effort and team approach.
  16. Performs related work as apparent or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field, or equivalent work experience. 
  • At least 7 years of related distribution/warehouse experience in a high-volume distribution environment.
  • Prior experience effectively working across organizations from all functions and overseeing multiple locations.
  • Prior experience in using LEAN tools and processes to ensure efficiency of operations.
  • Demonstrated strong planning and forecasting skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the on-schedule receiving, stocking, picking, and shipping of Company products.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong background in warehouse management systems and engineered standards. 
  • Strong people skills with the ability to relate to other departments' needs and concerns while still being able to accomplish the Company's goals.
  • Ability to administer policies and employee relations programs which emphasize both the Company and the employees. 
  • Strong leadership and sound decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent employee engagement skills.
  • Proven change management skills and reputation for building and leading high-performing, cross-functional teams that achieve their goals; track record in attracting, developing, and retaining talent
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of Company personnel and outside vendors.
  • Ability to motivate and engage a workforce.
  • Previous experience engaging employees in a union environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable distribution methods and procedures.
  • Successfully demonstrate negotiation agreements with outside vendors and partners.
  • Excellent customer service and associate engagement skills.
  • Ability to administer policies and employee relations programs which emphasize both the Company and the employees. 
  • Requires the ability travel up to 20%.
