Located in the heart of Toronto’s Financial District, our head office is easily accessible by TTC and GO Transit, and within walking distance to the Eaton Centre, Air Canada Centre, Rogers Centre, and CN Tower. As a national property and casualty commercial insurance provider, we also have offices across Canada.

Position Summary 

Reporting to the Manager, Project Manager/Scrum Master, we are looking for an experienced Scrum Master to work with an established Scrum Team. The incumbent will gain a strong understanding about the product that the team is supporting as well as establish a good working relationship with the Product Owner and the Agile Managers that support the running of the team. You are highly experienced in managing a Scrum team, an expert in understanding and executing the general principles and framework of Agile development and Scrum and can adapt and improve those principles where necessary to suit this organization. The key to success is a team that runs smoothly with a good velocity whilst constantly focusing on delivering the highest business value possible.

What you will be doing:

  1. Leading, coaching and influencing the team on the principles of Scrum
  • Coaching the team on the benefits and principles of self-organization and collaboration.
  • Assessing the Scrum Maturity of the team and organization and coaching the team to greater maturity.
  • Removing impediments for the team.
  • Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis on healing and problem-solving.
  • Leading the team through the four Scrum ceremonies.
  • Acting as a servant leader to support the team while leading by example.
  1. Facilitating discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution, valuing face-to-face communication with business leaders, IT leaders, project team members and scrum team
  2. Mediating the general conflict of goals between development team (high technical quality) and product owner (more features)
  3. Utilizing inspection and adaption to increase team velocity where possible
  4. Coaching and influencing the team and the organization on best Northbridge agile software tool practices
  5. Creating dashboards and reports from the current agile software tool and able to ensure that best practices are implemented organization wide and providing full transparency of the backlog and progress to management and stakeholders
  6. Supporting the Product Owner on grooming and maintaining the product backlog. Being open to changing business priorities whilst ensuring that any changes are driven by achieving greater business value
  7. Deep understanding of metrics created by the tool, including backlog monitoring, burndown metrics, velocity, user stories etc. and being able to use the metrics to drive better and consistent results
  8. Guiding the organization on how to use the Scrum framework
  • Supporting organizational initiatives to showcase the work of the Scrum team
  • Developing tools and processes to establish Scrum team delivery for the organization
  1. Coaching both the business and the team on the benefits of a sustainable pace while integrating both project and business as usual work
  2. Working closely with the EPMO Team to share and further develop best practices.
  3. Understand and influence the enterprise SDLC

What we are looking for:

  • Certified Scrum Master – preferably PSD II or higher
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in computer science or engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years of Scrum Master experience in application development with tight deadlines
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience with various SDLC methodologies (Waterfall, Hybrid, Agile, Iterative, Lean)
  • Ability to coach, guide, influence and instrument change for teams in an Agile environment
  • Proven results in executing agreed upon deliverables using the Scrum framework
  • Experienced creating dashboards and queries in TFS or a similar agile management software tool with track record of using the data to improve results
  • Experience working with 3rd party technology vendors
  • Proven results of working with a Scrum Team to establish and deliver the highest business value on a consistent basis within deadlines
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and building high performing teams

What sets you apart:

  • Familiarity with .net and Angular JS and Web Development skills (HTML, CSS) is a bonus
  • Strong ability to influence without authority
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to recognize unrelated problems and implement an appropriate solution within established guidelines
  • Ability to organize, interpret, and apply information from a variety of sources
  • Ability to motivate the team to problem solve in a clear, concise manner
  • Excellent ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with both the business team and the scrum team
  • Ability to perform several dissimilar tasks in a brief time frame whilst working within deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of the different agile frameworks and the ability where necessary to choose which framework works best in any given situation
  • Ability to bridge the gap between technical and business requirements
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Commitment to looking for ways to help the team continually improve
  • Insurance application knowledge would be a bonus
