Located in the heart of Toronto’s Financial District, our head office is easily accessible by TTC and GO Transit, and within walking distance to the Eaton Centre, Scotiabank Arena, Rogers Centre, and CN Tower. Position Summary 

The Business Delivery Lead will work closely with Business Leads to translate business needs into system requirements and to ensure successful implementation into the operations. They are responsible for defining the system development backlog and performing prioritization according to customer value. This requires a detailed understanding of Underwriting needs, as well as business vision and strategy, to prioritize investment, business value and delivery. The Business Delivery Lead must be able to collaboratively work within multiple evolving development methodologies including iterative Agile and sequential Waterfall programs and projects, and variations thereof.

This position serves as the day to day decision maker and provides continual business guidance for the execution team. This position is responsible for prioritizing the delivery team's work so that it aligns with Northbridge business strategy. The role leads, manages or orchestrates activities for completion and works with the business and IT delivery teams to identify and mitigate risks to include business operational risks.


What you will be doing: 

  1. Elaborate business requirements based on high level direction provided by the Business Lead.
  2. Understand the end user and in conjunction with the Business Analyst ensure customer needs are captured in the user stories (and use cases) that drive the work of a delivery team.
  3. Accountable for managing a delivery team’s backlog, sequencing into sprints, and ensuring that the delivery team is working on requests in the right order.
  4. Strategize with Business Leads and stakeholders on issues related to product requests, vision and overall business value.
  5. Can work independently on medium to large complexity efforts, or in support of a Senior or Lead on larger efforts that have impact outside their scope.
  6. Identify, engage and influence business stakeholders and subject matter experts.
  7. Work with business and corporate stakeholders to understand and validate business strategy and vision, and customer needs.
  8. Serve as direct representative of the business with delivery teams, representing/reinforcing the Underwriter’s perspective throughout the product realization cycle.
  9. Manage, prioritize, and assess the impact of all work items, such as new features, defects, etc., including providing the decision to create, fix or defer at the project level.
  10. Review, and when appropriate, accept and prioritize feedback and new requirements from stakeholders. Continuous re-evaluation of needs to ensure requirements are prioritized based on value.
  11. Lead the definition of acceptance criteria.
  12. Review and accept or decline output of development to ensure specified acceptance criteria have been completed.
  13. Prepare the business for the change and arm them with tactics and metrics for benefits, adoption, and risk.
  14. Assists with coaching less experienced team members.
  15. Partner with QA to ensure scope of testing sufficiently ensures proper functionality.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

 What we are looking for: 

  • 6+ years of Underwriting experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Computer Science or Computer Engineering degree is preferred) and/or equivalent on the job experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of multiple technical software delivery life cycles (i.e., Agile, Waterfall).
  • Advanced knowledge of change management practices and process engineering methodologies.
  • Experience leading cross functional teams.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to implement business requirements, with minimal guidance.
  • Experience with Application Lifecycle Management tools, including the use of Team Foundation Server an asset.
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office Suite of Products (including Outlook) and Windows environment.
  • Fluently bilingual (English / French) is a definite asset (a requirement in Quebec Region).

  • Previous demonstrated experience as a Product Owner.
  • Relevant experience in process improvement, project delivery, business/requirements analysis or business operations/product line or relevant work experience with Agile.
  • Demonstrated proficiency at managing multiple and changing priorities/projects, and delivering results.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and resourcefulness in identifying and analyzing relevant data and defining critical issues and alternatives.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high standards of performance and goals.

  • Ability to foster and build good working relationships with Underwriters and business areas inside and outside the work unit.
