Located in the heart of Toronto’s Financial District, our head office is easily accessible by TTC and GO Transit, and within walking distance to the Eaton Centre, Air Canada Centre, Rogers Centre, and CN Tower. Position Summary 

As Executive Underwriter you will work independently and report to the Director of Underwriting to establish, implement and monitor national underwriting strategies for Commercial Property and Crime business lines in all market segments across the Northbridge Financial Corporation (NBFC) brands.

In your role, you will lead technical underwriting support and business solutions for all Regions. Your strong interpersonal and communication skills allow you to develop and maintain relationships with many stakeholders throughout NBFC. You will also perform regular regional audits coordinated with the National Quality Assurance & Underwriting Excellence team.

What you will be doing:

  • Conduct market research to develop business cases for proposed new products, product line changes, legislative changes or other enhancements. 
  • Referrals are to be completed in a timely manner.
  • In a project management environment, accountable for the introduction, implementation and communication of rating and exposure strategies, coverage and product changes.
  • Define efficient business requirements for development of I.T. systems to support the underwriting function.
  • Portfolio management of NBFC top and bottom line targets and post implementation monitoring
  • Maintain an effective technical framework including hazard recognition, authority levels, and bulletins.
  • As the underwriting technical expert, develop and train underwriters and key brokers.
  • Represent NBFC in insurance industry committees and information seminars. 
  • Support other special duties and projects as assigned.

What we are looking for:

  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 7 to 10 years working experience in Commercial Property and Crime.
  • Knowledge and understanding of underwriting principles and pricing methodology. 
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office suite – Word, Excel and PowerPoint including experience using actuarial produced spreadsheets. 
  • Completion of the CIP/FCIP designation.
  • Fluently bilingual (English / French) is a definite asset.
