Position Summary:

The Underwriting Assistant is responsible for processing the translation of our Small Business Accounts onto our new Underwriting Platform in accordance with established guidelines and business objectives for data quality and service levels.

What you will be doing:

Perform data entry, and data calculations/computations using business systems.

  • Enter the translation of each account/policy, ensuring accuracy and completeness of information, on a timely basis, and with close attention to detail
  • Edit, verify, and identify policy errors and notify the appropriate parties
  • Perform necessary calculations required on assigned accounts/policies
  • Maintain all electronic filing for assigned underwriting files in accordance with Corporate Underwriting guidelines
  • Process all assigned policy adjustments accurately and timely in accordance with established guidelines

Communicate with underwriters for verification and qualification of information and to request information required to be part of the converting account.

  • Follow instructions from Underwriters on unique risk information to be entered

Familiarize and apply best business practices towards national service and quality standards and policies.

  • Suggest ways to improve training documents and established processes

Other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for: 

  • Post-secondary school education and/or equivalent on the job experience.
  • Previous office administration experience, preferably in the property and casualty Insurance industry an asset
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Established analytical skills and curiosity about various business processes and how they function collaboratively
  • Excellent keyboarding and data entry skills
  • Ability to work within a PC oriented environment, including familiarity with e-mail and Internet skills
  • Competence with Excel and other Microsoft Office Suite products
  • Fluently Bilingual (English / French) is a strong asset
  • General insurance/business knowledge an asset
  • Actively pursuing CIP designation is an asset
