Located in the heart of Toronto’s Financial District, our head office is easily accessible by TTC and GO Transit, and within walking distance to the Eaton Centre, Scotiabank Arena, Rogers Centre, and CN Tower. Position Summary 

The Senior Project Financial Analyst supports the VP Strategic Project Management and EPMO team in carrying out the group’s mandate with respect to financial planning, management, reporting and analysis on the company’s enterprise wide project portfolio.

The Senior Analyst must work closely with Project Managers, Business Partners, Planning and Corporate Finance to deliver short and long term financial plans and controls for a wide range of corporate projects.

What you will be doing:

  1. Manage, prepare and coordinate all project expense actuals, forecasts, and plans, and support accounting classification of expenditures between capital and expense.
  2. Establish and elevate financial discipline for enterprise wide projects to enable planning, forecasting and performance analysis.
  3. Support CFO, VP Strategic Project Management, Program Director, Business Sponsors and other senior executives by providing financial analytics in order to enable decision making.
  4. Provide explanations and recommendations for the resolution of financial variances.
  5. Work independently with project managers, business leads, planning and corporate finance to build program and project business cases for Executive approval.
  6. Possess maturity and confidence to challenge operational and financial assumptions and assess operational and financial impacts of decisions
  7. Partner with Project Managers and Business Leads to deliver monthly project reporting, variance to forecast analysis, and lead the project financial forecast and annual planning process.
  8. Maintain the portfolio financial reporting to keep visibility of project financial status through the governance process.
  9. Ensure financial governance process and policies are being adhered to by project managers and business leads.
  10. Lead financial update of Business Cases as required.
  11. Responsible for matching and coding invoices and sending to Accounts Payable for payment.
  12. Establish business case financial metrics or KPI’s and establish the discipline to achieve benefits realization.
  13. Review business cases with the senior leadership prior to broader Executive review including management of assumptions and reporting of costs and benefits.
  14. Responsible for the presentation of reports using various tools including Excel and BI tools to senior executives. Must be able to provide high level and detailed level analytics depending on audience.

What we are looking for:

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Financial Management, Economics or Business or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience in a finance or business role.
  • Attainment of CPA, CMA designation with 2plus years relevant experience in a finance planning and modelling role
  • Superior knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including Excel.
  • Working knowledge of the P&C insurance industry, preferably commercial.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of project finance experience.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise planning and business intelligence tools.
