Located in the heart of Toronto’s Financial District, our head office is easily accessible by TTC and GO Transit, and within walking distance to the Eaton Centre, Air Canada Centre, Rogers Centre, and CN Tower. As a national property and casualty commercial insurance provider, we also have offices across Canada.

Position Summary:

The Manager, Total Rewards is responsible for developing total rewards solutions to ensure competitiveness of our total rewards program and our ability to attract, engage and retain staff. This role is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of all total rewards programs including compensation, benefits, pensions, disability and payroll.

What you will be doing:

  1. Provide positive leadership to staff and develop a work environment that is inclusive, respectful and motivating for staff.
  2. Manage the planning, design, implementation, maintenance, and administration of all total rewards programs to maintain a competitive position in the marketplace.
  3. Review, evaluate, redesign and manage the compensation programs by collaborating with People and Culture VP, to ensure programs are performance driven, market competitive, legally compliant, accurately administered and effectively communicated.
  4. Manage the development of incentive and bonus plans, ensuring they are designed to drive employee performance as well as ensuring they are market competitive, legally sound and managed/administered accurately and effectively.
  5. Provide proactive compensation analysis/assessment to allow our business leaders to make informed decisions.
  6. Provide direction and leadership on pension and benefit administration including oversight of programs and ensure proper administration of all pension and benefits policies and programs.
  7. Partner with third-party disability administrator, and manage the disability administration across Northbridge.
  8. Oversee all payroll related activities, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  9. Conduct market studies and analysis to ensure internal equity, external competitiveness and alignment to our total rewards philosophy.
  10. Leverage technology and automation to improve the effectiveness of total rewards processes and enhance the employee experience while minimizing costs.
  11. Evaluate effectiveness of total rewards programs, innovating and recommending changes to maximize the effectiveness of our investment in total rewards.
  12. Audit total rewards practices and identify opportunities for efficiencies and improvements.
  13. Effectively communicate trends, legislation changes, and other relevant related data on a timely basis to the VP, XX and when appropriate, recommend a course of action to effectively manage impacted/assigned plans.
  14. Manage various external vendors including benefit consultants, insurance carriers, third party providers and government agencies.

What we are looking for:

  • Pro-active leader with 4 to 6 years leading a total rewards function, with proven decision-making skills and the ability to manage expectations effectively to successfully achieve multiple, competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team and create an engaging, performance focused working environment.
  • Strong experience/knowledge in total rewards including managing the design, implementation and administration of total rewards programs.
  • Understanding of payroll processes and pension committees.
  • Experience using total rewards technology and on-line databases (Mercer, Towers).
  • CEBS/CCP/CBP designation.  CHRL designation considered an asset.
