Position Summary: 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Service & Controls Technician to provide advanced technical support for Nortek HVAC systems, with a strong emphasis on electrical troubleshooting, control systems, and customer support. This role combines hands-on expertise in HVAC controls with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex field and remote service issues. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of electrical systems, HVAC sequences of operation, and control integration, and will be a key contributor to product support, development, and customer satisfaction.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert-level remote and on-site troubleshooting for HVAC control systems, electrical components, and software integration.
  • Interpret electrical diagrams, control programs, and technical documentation to resolve customer issues.
  • Stay with issues through root cause analysis and resolution, coordinating with internal teams and external contractors.

Customer & Field Support:

  • Serve as a primary contact for technical support via phone, email, and other electronic media.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by guiding contractors, engineers, and building owners through system operation and problem resolution.
  • Coordinate and lead field problem meetings, training sessions, and technical service visits.

Controls Engineering & Documentation:

  • Assist in the design and verification of control systems using DDC/PLC programming and HVAC control elements (motors, valves, sensors, actuators, etc.).
  • Develop and maintain technical literature, training materials, and instructional videos.
  • Support new product development and technology transfer initiatives across departments.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and R&D to resolve service issues and implement permanent fixes.
  • Participate in internal training and support other Nortek facilities in building and servicing units.
  • Contribute to the development of service benchmarks, metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Education:

  • High school diploma required; technical college or equivalent experience (10+ years) in electrical and refrigeration preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science is a plus but not required.

Technical Proficiency:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Position Requirements:

  • 5–7 years of hands-on experience in HVAC system installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong practical electrical knowledge, including reading blueprints, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.
  • Proven ability to manage complex service scenarios involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience with DDC or PLC programming and HVAC control system design.
  • Familiarity with bid documents, control plans, and specifications.
  • Travel Requirement: Up to 50%
