Job Summary 
Position Overview: As an HVAC Electrical and Controls Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and optimizing control systems for custom commercial and industrial HVAC systems. Your expertise in control systems, automation, and HVAC technology will be instrumental in ensuring efficient, reliable, and environmentally friendly operation of HVAC systems. You will collaborate with a team of engineers, technicians, manufacturing personnel, and project managers to deliver innovative solutions that meet client requirements and industry standards.

Job Responsibilities 
  • Participate in new product development projects. 
  • Develop detailed HVAC control system designs based on project specifications and requirements. 
  • Select appropriate hardware, sensors, and controllers to achieve optimal performance and energy efficiency. 
  • Perform electrical calculations to ensure that components are properly selected. 
  • Understand power side wiring requirements for complex HVAC systems. 
  • Write, modify, and test control algorithms and programs for HVAC systems. 
  • Implement controls communications protocols to seamlessly interface with customer requirements using BACnet, Modbus, LON, etc. 
  • Configure and integrate sensors, actuators, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and other devices to facilitate system automation and communication. 
  • Oversee the installation of HVAC control systems in our manufacturing environment to ensure that equipment is properly integrated with existing systems. 
  • Conduct thorough testing and commissioning of control systems to verify their functionality and compliance with design specifications. 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during the commissioning process. 
  • Monitor and analyze the performance of HVAC control systems to identify opportunities for improvement in energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and system reliability. 
  • Recommend and implement enhancements, upgrades, or retrofits to optimize system performance. 
  • Create comprehensive technical documentation, including system drawings, control narratives, and user manuals. 
  • Work with an R&D laboratory team to qualify new products and implement product, process, and component level improvement projects 
  • Work with regulatory and compliance engineers to ensure that all HVAC control systems meet relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations. 
  • Promote adherence to safety protocols during system installation and commissioning. 
  • Be present and available on the manufacturing production floor to assist with problem solving, unit testing, and unit controls verification. 
  • Mentor and assist less experience members of the cross functional engineering team. 
 
Job Qualification Requirements 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related ABET Engineering Degree with preference given to those with advanced degrees. 
  • Experience with selecting and programing DDC or PLC control systems. 
  • Knowledge of HVAC Sequence of Operations, Component Selection and Pricing. 
  • Ability to work with Bid Documents, Control Plans, and Specifications. 
  • Understanding of HVAC Systems. 
  • Solid skills in Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Solid CAD operational skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to communicate technically, both internally with various departments and externally with customers, as needed. 
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail with effective ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines in a timeline driven environment. 
  • Motivated, creative, and enthusiastic to learn, and ability to work in cross-functional teams. 
  • Independent analysis and judgment skills to resolve non-standard problems. 
 
Job Qualification Preferences 
  • Manufacturing experience in HVAC or related industry. 
  • Experience with Automated Logic Controls and Delta Controls. 
  • Fluency in ePlan design software. 
  • Experience with UL60335-2-40, UL508A, NFPA, and NEC. 
  • Experience with listing / certification agencies such as UL and/or Intertek. 
  • Apprentice or Journeyman electrical experience. 
  • Interest in computer programming, including Python, MS Basic.NET and C#.
