Position Summary: 

The Project Engineer will be responsible for the timely, cost effective, and successful execution of the design engineering aspects for new product introductions and major enhancements to existing products.  The role requires collaboration with laboratory technicians, operations, contract manufacturers, strategic sourcing, and CAD designers to optimize designs for manufacturability and consumer satisfaction.  Additional responsibilities include sustaining activities, resolution of field issues, and cost improvement initiatives.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Participate in project teams and complete all assigned design engineering activities related to the development of new products
  • Utilize 1D modeling software to simulate HVAC systems, optimizing on performance and cost
  • Develop the design of experiments, specify testing procedures, specify instrumentation requirements, and evaluate test data against the simulated results
  • Evaluate designs against product standards to ensure equipment meets industry requirements
  • Evaluate that new product designs meet performance, cost, safety, and reliability requirements
  • Create documentation of design decisions
  • Communicate design requirements and test results to non-technical coworkers
  • Create engineering specifications for purchased and fabricated components
  • Contribute toward improvement of design and test practices
  • Investigate field and production issues

 

 

Position Qualifications

 

Requirements:

  • Commitment to Safety – for themselves, their coworkers, and everyone who will interact with the products they design
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline
  • 2 – 4 years of professional experience in HVAC/product development)
  • Ability to analyze and solve technical problems quickly and effectively
  • Excellent documentation, project management, and organization skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Self-directed, adaptable, flexible, self-motivated, sense of urgency, and good listening skills

 

Preferred:

  • Experience with the design and testing of residential HVAC products
  • Experience with project management tools (MS Project, Smartsheet, or other)
  • Experience with engineering change management system (for example: SolidWorks PDM)
  • Experience with CFD/FEA software
  • Experience with data collection systems
  • Experience with root cause analysis
  • Experience with determining design of experiments
  • Proficiency with data analysis software
  • Proficiency with Office 365 Suite
  • Familiarity with HVAC safety and performance standards (UL, CSA, IEC, AHRI)
  • Familiarity with SAP
