Managing Academic Director

Online education is no longer a novel or niche idea. It is the fastest-growing segment in higher education, accounting for 20% of all enrollees and 35% of graduate-level certificates and degrees. It's also getting increasingly competitive, as more and better programs are launched each semester. Universities need to go online quickly, economically, and elegantly, creating programs that students can't wait to tell their friends about and that their professors want to teach.

Noodle helps universities bring programs online with flexibility, transparency, alignment, efficiency, and joy. That's why more top universities chose us last year than all other online program managers combined. We are a passionate team of technologists, educators, and experts. Online learning has the potential to transform higher education; if you’re interested in being part of that journey, keep reading!

About the Role:

Managing multiple program-build teams requires solid people management skills,  expertise in learning design, and familiarity with university--and particularly faculty--culture.  Our Managing Directors (MD) manage the Program Academic Directors responsible for the build of online degree programs. MDs are exceptional problem-solvers, whose ability to resolve complex issues allows their Program Academic Directors to focus on delivering outstanding learning experiences on time and on budget. MDs anticipate the concerns of university program directors and Noodle General Managers ensuring all stakeholders have program status information when they need it.

The MD supervises a team of Academic Directors, sets expectations with our high standards, and holds the team and themselves accountable for excellence. They provide targeted guidance to the Academic Directors to ensure that the online programs reflect the high standards of our EPIIIC (Engaging, Personalized, Interactive, Intuitive, Inclusive, Collaborative) learning design rubric. They monitor build team capacity across their portfolio and work with the Head of Learning Operations to maximize team efficiency and quality.

Finally, each MD specializes in a disciplinary vertical, managing the Academic Directors who direct the builds of degree programs in those verticals. Current verticals include a) business-related degrees; b) data/computer science-related degrees; c) healthcare-related degrees; and d) social work and education-related degrees.  Each MD brings related disciplinary expertise to their vertical.

As our Managing Academic Director, you will:

  • Manage a team of Academic Directors as their teams build out high-quality degree programs, including clearly setting expectations and managing them against those expectations;
  • Manage resources to ensure all teams are maximizing their capacity while delivering exceptional learning experiences that delight faculty and students;
  • Anticipate and coordinate the communication about the build, including sharing solution action plans, as needed, and program-related data to stakeholders;
  • Help Academic Directors remove blockers to program-build success, and when they struggle, step in and create resolutions that allow the team to proceed smoothly.
  • Coordinate professional development for your vertical to ensure PADs and Learning Design teams bring the most creative, forward-thinking solutions to their program builds.

You have:

  • Master's degree; preferably a doctoral degree

  • Team management experience, specifically in setting expectations and holding team members accountable
  • Fluency in learning science and its application to create great learning design leading to exceptional learning experiences that result in abnormally high retention and graduation rates
  • Familiarity and comfort with faculty and university culture; able to inspire confidence by faculty and Noodle stakeholders in our ability to provide value
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams to creatively problem-solve to achieve desired outcomes
  • Expertise in curricular and pedagogical needs and innovations in at least one of the program verticals listed above
