Noble Network of Charter Schools (“Noble”) is a catalyst for educational equity in Chicago that empowers students with the scholarship, discipline, and honor necessary to succeed in college and lead exemplary lives.
At Noble, students are college bound. As the largest charter public school network in Chicago, Noble’s high school program exposes students to higher education options and guides them through the collegiate application process. Through college trips, college fairs, summer college immersion programs and required academic courses, Noble demystifies the college experience and shapes students’ beliefs and confidence about higher education.
Noble’s 18 schools have a reputation for unprecedented outcomes. Its 1,300 employees are currently serving over 12,300 students, 98% of whom are minority, 89% low-income, and 83% first-generation college goers. The School Quality and Rating Policy scores for the Chicago Public Schools rated Noble campuses as ten of the top fifteen public high schools in the city. On average 99% of Noble seniors are accepted to college each year and 90% matriculate – far exceeding the performance of any comparable school or system. Noble alumni graduate from college at rates 3-4x their peers from comparison schools in Chicago.
Noble was founded on many of the same entrepreneurial principles that have built successful businesses—strong leadership, meaningful use of data, and a high degree of accountability. With longer class periods, a longer school day, and a longer school year, Noble provides students with substantially more instructional time than the traditional Chicago public high school. This extra time, combined with a disciplined, consistent school culture, high expectations, and a team of dedicated teachers, results in dramatically improved academic performance.
The organization is committed to working with families and the broader community to achieve its mission. Noble currently works with more than 130 community-based organizations and nonprofits across Chicago. Under the leadership of newly-appointed Chief Executive Officer, Constance Jones, Noble will continue its growth trajectory. Jones is Noble’s first African American and first female to lead Noble. She oversees the strategy of the operation with a total budget in excess of $170 million. Embarking on an ambitious strategic plan, Noble has set its sights on raising more than $15M in contributed revenue in the next fiscal year.

At this important moment in its history, Noble is seeking to add an innovative and strategic fundraising leader to serve as the Chief Development Officer (CDO). The CDO will be the leader for all development initiatives and fundraising strategies.
Reporting directly to and collaborating with the CEO, the CDO will work in close partnership with Board Members and the senior team to implement strategies for growth by building and stewarding robust, meaningful partnerships with current and prospective individual, corporate and foundation donors.
The CDO will be a bold thinker and a strategic yet hands-on executor who will lead a best-in-class development program. The CDO will oversee and manage a team of 3 fundraising professionals. This leader will actively manage a donor portfolio by personally participating in cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, as well as collaborating with CEO, Board Members and senior team to ensure that they are effectively supported and leveraged to achieve fundraising goals. The CDO will also advise on and provide oversight of Board development, including the formation of committees, agenda-setting for meetings, and generally shaping the progression of the Board.
In addition to developing new and creative approaches to increase corporate and foundation giving, a key priority for the CDO will be to enhance the organization’s individual giving program.
Challenged by the diversity of responsibilities, the CDO will manage a wide variety of development functions in a rapidly evolving organization. They will be an articulate and enthusiastic advocate for Chicago’s students and work tirelessly to promote the mission of Noble throughout Chicago and beyond.
The CDO is expected to have the maturity, creativity and professionalism required to drive positive outcomes. This leader will be a highly proactive and effective major gifts fundraiser who is comfortable working directly with and soliciting individuals, foundations, corporations and other funders for seven- and eight-figure gifts.
Key priorities of this senior development role include:
- Providing comprehensive and strategic leadership in developing a multi-faceted approach to enhance a high-performing development organization with a high level of professionalism and dedication;
- Leading, monitoring, and executing a successful comprehensive campaign;
- Stewarding and soliciting a portfolio of major gift prospects;
- Collaborating and leveraging relationships of Noble’s leadership including the Board and senior team, ensuring they are effectively supported to achieve fundraising goals; and
- Increasing the effectiveness and productivity of the team by serving as a coach and mentor, motivating team members with energy and passion and ensuring clear expectations and accountability.
The Chief Development Officer will enhance Noble’s overall approach to fundraising and refine its development efforts by providing strategic and collaborative leadership for the development team and the organization as a whole.
The ideal candidate will have the following professional and personal qualities, characteristics and skills:
An Expert in Development
The CDO will be a results-driven and experienced leader in the field of development with a measurable track record of success within a complex environment. This leader will be energized by the prospect of leading the development department, implementing processes and best practices. It is paramount for this candidate to have a broad and deep knowledge of development, including a leadership position in large capital campaigns, major gifts, individual giving, corporations and foundations. The CDO will be a demonstrated leader in the development profession with a proven track record of closing significant gifts and evidence of exceptional cultivation and stewardship. A tactical leader, the successful candidate will have a strong data and analysis orientation and a proven ability to use metrics to drive development decisions and achieve strategic objectives.
A Strategic Leader
With a proven record of converting strategy into effective execution, the CDO will be a builder with the ability to set priorities decisively, delegate responsibilities, assure accountability and allocate resources to ensure results. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented, analytical individual who functions well and follows through in a fast-paced environment. The CDO will exhibit intellectual curiosity and creativity, including the ability to listen to and learn from multiple voices, particularly when it applies to Noble’s development goals. An assertive and responsive leader, this person will have the ability to translate the organization’s development goals into clear objectives for a wide range of key stakeholders. The successful candidate will be driven by a mission of strengthening the capacity and success of the development team through effective delegation and shared responsibility.
Skilled Relationship Builder and Collaborator
The CDO will be skilled at building and sustaining excellent relationships at multiple levels with varied constituencies. Calling on their experience partnering with a visionary CEO and sophisticated Board of Directors, this leader will share their bold vision for the future. The CDO must also lead and collaborate with Noble’s senior team, staff, donors, and the development team. The CDO will lead the development team in establishing a creative yet practical course of action for the evolution of the Board, playing a prominent role in fostering a strong partnership between Noble and the Board. This leader will have a motivating approach to building collaboration and buy-in and generating support from internal and external stakeholders. The CDO will be able to establish rapport and open communication with all constituents and successfully convey the organization’s mission and objectives. This proactive communicator will foster a strong working relationship with key leaders. The successful candidate will excel at influencing with a marked ability to make a positive impact on others.
