SUMMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE JOB:
The Senior Import Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and managing the importation of goods while ensuring strict compliance with U.S. Customs regulations and company policies. This position plays a critical role in optimizing supply chain processes to support timely and cost-effective international shipments. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, reporting, and communication skills and demonstrate the ability to handle high volumes of complex import documentation and billing activities. Additionally, the Senior Import Coordinator manages freight tracking, internal compliance reporting, and coordination with customs brokers, logistics providers, and internal stakeholders.
 
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Track and monitor Ocean and Air freight shipments to ensure timely delivery and accurate documentation.
  • Prepare and process import entry documentation, either internally or through third-party brokers, ensuring proper HTS classification and full compliance with U.S. Customs laws.
  • Coordinate the transportation of shipments from the port of entry to company warehouses or customer facilities.
  • Analyze and revise Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) reports; ensure timely payment of duties and maintain audit-ready documentation.
  • Provide daily updates and proactive communication to internal departments on shipment status.
  • Compile, analyze, and report import data and key metrics; generate spreadsheets and management reports as needed.
  • Review and validate freight invoices (especially for DHL shipments) for accuracy and adherence to agreed rates; issue freight rate quotes as required.
  • Create customs duty billing forms in Smart Border and submit to accounting; assist with billing reconciliation.
  • Proactively identify and resolve transportation, documentation, and compliance issues.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency in import operations.
  • Prepare and manage all required documentation for duty drawback programs.
  • Assemble and submit monthly compliance and import activity reports to headquarters with all necessary supporting documentation.
  • Perform other import-related duties as needed to support logistics operations.
 
JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS/COMPETENCIES:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred.
  • 8 plus years of import/export compliance experience, with a strong understanding of international logistics and supply chain operations.
  • In-depth understanding of U.S. Customs regulations and programs including CTPAT, ABI, GSP, FTA, and HTS classification.
  • Proven experience conducting compliance audits, processing customs entries, and reconciling import billing.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, interpret, and present complex data in a clear and actionable format.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word); experience with AS/400 or similar import/export systems preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across departments and external partners.
  • Customs Broker License preferred but not required.
 
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:
No Supervisory qualifications are required for this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
A normal amount of sitting and standing, average mobility to move around an office, and ability to conduct a normal amount of work on a computer.
 
SALARY
At NMB, the pay band for this role is between $23.26/h and $34.88/h, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. The base pay is a part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range of the pay band process.
