Summary:

The Directed Energy Laser Development group has an opening for an Opto-Mechanical Technician to support the development of high-power fiber amplifiers.

Support the development of next-generation fiber laser products in a fast-growing, vertically integrated company. The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of professional experience working with optical systems including receiving and inspection of components, opto-mechanical assembly, integration, alignment, and test. Candidates should be familiar with safe operation of laser systems and exercise a strong appreciation for the importance of laser safety. Candidates should also be willing to work additional duties as needed and occasional travel may be required to support testing at customer sites.

Experience/Capability:

  • Contribute to a cross-functional teams pursuing the development of novel fiber laser designs.
  • Effectively prioritizes with minimal daily direction to meet mid to long-term schedule objectives.
  • Experience in Opto-Mechanical Assembly and troubleshooting.
  • Comfortable working with a range of software and laboratory diagnostic tools.
  • Assist with engineering experiments/new product qualifications.
  • Positive attitude, strong troubleshooting skills and willingness to develop creative solutions to time-sensitive problems.
  • Able to work comfortably in an R&D engineering environment with often rapidly changing priorities.
  • Ability to communicate and document findings effectively.

Additional Desired Experience / Capability:

  • Expertise and competence in working with high power laser systems.
  • Experience with optical fiber splicing, polishing, repair/service, and fiber management.
  • Electrical cables and components assembly and test.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED). Associate’s degree in electronics or opto-mechanical field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years working experience in a high-tech environment.
  • Formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and/or experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of product functionality, product processes, and utilized splicing equipment.
  • Strong understanding of process flow, splice equipment and tools and the impact they have on the product.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to think logically and critically.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally, across organizations (Operations, Engineering, QA, etc.)
  • Strong dexterity and mechanical skills.
  • Solid computer skills (MS Office Suite, ERP Platforms, and shop-floor interface).
  • CPR, First-Aid, ERT training a plus.
  • Supports team/department/company goals and improvements.

  • Engineering Technician II: $24.00 - $29.00 per hour
  • Senior Engineering Technician III: $29.00 - $34.00 per hour
  • Target Cash Bonus with potential payout of up to 2% of your wages  
  • 80 hours of paid Vacation per year, plus paid Sick Leave and 10 paid Holidays
  • Vacation increases 8 hours annually, up to a maximum of 120 hours per year
