Summary
The Product Engineer is charged with oversight of all aspects of product life cycle including NPI (New Product Introduction) associated costs, performance metrics, and schedules to enable next-generation product realization at nLIGHT. Functions

Functions
- Own and complete NPI design-oriented elements, including specifications, product/design FMEAs, DFX, qualification plans, drawings, test requirements, etc.
- Focus on all technical details of products – ranging from initial designs to volume production issues to end of life management.
- Support Sales and Program Managers in cultivating customer relationships and establish understanding of customer applications and associated product use.
- Listen to customer technical wishes and convert them into product solutions and requirements.
- Communicate specifications, device performance and operation, and manufacturing details and schedules to customers in a clear and non-confrontational manner.
- Collaborate with development and manufacturing engineers to determine development and build schedules.
- Work with finance to estimate project costs including ROIs and establish product costs through detailed yielded BOMs.
- Work with buyer/planners to identify key vendor engagement regarding BOM costs, material cost reduction targets, vendor qualification, piece part design trade-offs, and managing delivery of pre-pilot products.
- Lead improvements in reliability based on FA of external RMAs and internal NCMs, and establish root cause failures and appropriate corrective actions.
- Review production data (e.g., yield, cycle time, DL hours, BOM cost) across MFG process to facilitate continual improvement plans.
- Collaborate with development and marketing on product roadmaps that promote the investigation and application of new technologies to meet forecasted industry demands.
- Ensure shipped products meet cost, performance specifications, reliability, and quality goals.
- Support the planning, development, implementation and maintenance of manufacturing methods, processes and operations for new and existing products.
- Assist in development of systems to maintain reports and record keeping of company products/processes.
- Establish disciplined Six Sigma (DMAIC, SPC, DOE, Gage R&R, etc.) approach to improvement and use 8 Disciplines of problem solving or equivalent tools to manage engineering activities.
- Manage multiple projects with multi-disciplinary indirectly reporting team members.
Qualifications
- BS, MS, or PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical, Optical, or Electrical Engineering or similar discipline.
- 5+ years of commercial/industrial laser industry experience.
- Project Management competency.
- The ability to coordinate teams across organizational boundaries and work within a matrix organization.
- Direct Optical, Laser, Mechanical, and/or Electrical design experience
- Six Sigma training preferred.

Starting pay depends on qualifications:
- Product Engineer II: $90,000 - $105,000 annually
- Senior Product Engineer: $97,000 - $130,000 annually

- Target Cash Bonus of 5-6% of earned wages, depending on level
