nLIGHT is seeking a thin film Process Engineer to join our Cleave and Coat Operations team located in Vancouver, Washington.

Job Summary:

The Process Engineer will drive continuous improvement activities in a manufacturing environment of released products and sustain production processes as appropriate. Enable introduction of next generation diode lasers through process development and supporting transition from concept to high volume manufacturing. Coordinate effectively with a wide range of cross functional groups

Responsibilities:

  • Drives continuous improvement opportunities and maintains yield metrics utilizing wide variety of analytical techniques (such as SPC, Gauge R&R/MSA)
  • Supports manufacturing of released processes and products including generating BOMs and routes, documenting work instructions and support training of personnel.
  • Evaluates, procures, and qualifies new manufacturing equipment and materials.
  • Collaborates with the daily activities of engineering technicians
  • Solves complex technical problems in a timely manner such that schedule (production or development) are maintained.
  • Develops a consensus among all appropriate groups before implementing new procedures.

Qualifications:

  • BS or higher degree in Engineering (Physics, Material Science, Optical, Chemical and/or Mechanical) or exceptional industrial experience in closely related technologies.
  • At least two years of recent experience in semiconductor or optical coatings industry.
  • Demonstrated ability with failure and root cause analysis
  • Experience with process engineering for various PVD processes: Evaporation, Magnetron Sputtering, Ion Beam Sputtering, Molecular Beam Epitaxy
  • Demonstrated process development experience including DoE, DFM, 6 Sigma methodology
  • Knowledge of thin film characterization techniques
  • Experience with thin film metal deposition
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills allowing for effective communication in cross functional & multi-site teams.
  • Preferred experience with optical coating design
  • Preferred experience with UHV systems and equipment
  • Preferred knowledge of statistical analysis and design of experiments.
  • Preferred experience with programming for data logging and data management

Salary level based on qualifications

·         Process Engineer I: $70,000 - $85,000

·         Process Engineer II: $80,000 - $95,000

·         Sr Process Engineer III: $90,000 - $115,000
