Position: MACHINIST/FABRICATOR

Experience: A minimum of 3 years professional machining experience.

Minimum Education: H.S. Diploma or GED required; Associate degree or Technical Certification is a plus.

Compensation Range: $25.00 - $40.00/hour depending upon education, skills, and experience.

Job Description: The MACHINIST/FABRICATOR will support the development of cutting-edge laser and electro-optical systems.  The ideal candidate has at least 3 years professional machining/fabrication experience and is interested in career broadening opportunities to expand into mechanical design and drafting. 

Responsibilities:

  • Under limited supervision, sets up and operates all available machine tools and performs progressive machining operations on work involving very close tolerances or unusual requirements.
  • Performs complex fabrication, welding and machining operations to support the development and fabrication of new components and modifications of existing components.
  • Develops a methodical construction approach, which requires considerable originality, judgment, and technical skill.
  • Support the maintenance and configuration of machine shop equipment: mills, lathes, saws, and metrology tooling.
  • Performs fits and assembles where necessary, using machinists' hand tools and measuring instruments.  
  • Additional duties related to facility support.

Required Experience / Capability:

  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and maintain composure and good working relationships.
  • At least 3 years experience as a professional machinist/fabricator.
  • Ability to read, prep material and layout work according to CAD drawings.
  • Professional GTAW / GMAW welding training for stainless steel, mild steel and aluminum.
  • Operate with a safety first mindset.
  • Positive attitude, strong troubleshooting skills and willingness to develop creative solutions to time-sensitive problems.
  • Experience with facility maintenance activities.

Additional Desired Experience / Capability:

  • Expertise in Fabrication and Assembly Drawing Preparation for manufacturing (ISO and ANSI standards) including experience with version control and change record documentation.
  • American Welding Society (AWS) Certification D1.1, D1.2, or D17.1.
  • Experience with CAM software, G-Code & M-Code Programming, and post-processors.
  • Experience with conversational programing: Proto-Trak, HAAS Visual Part Programming System.
  • Experience with various manufacturing techniques – machining, sheet metal, injection molding, etc.
  • Experience in Opto-Mechanical Assembly, including receiving and inspecting components, dry-assembly, bonding.
  • Forklift operation is a plus.
