About the Role

nLIGHT is seeking an experienced Quality Technician to join our quality team located in Hillsboro, Oregon. This role will perform sample inspection and measurement of incoming parts and paperwork to satisfy production requirements. This role supports first article inspection of new parts and/or parts from new suppliers. This position will record inspection results and initiate the disposition of non-conforming parts.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Works with Quality Engineers to define the inspection methods and develop the inspection instructions
  • Coordinates with warehouses and factories in Vancouver and Camas sites to schedule and arrange incoming inspections
  • Serves as an expert for the IQA metrology tools.  Maintains IQA metrology tools in Vancouver and Camas sites for calibration, upgrade, gage R&R and work with tool vendors for trouble shootings.
  • Trains and coaches IQA inspectors, as well as provides routine guidance to execute inspection procedures
  • Manages inspection documentation, inspection records, and support incoming inspection requirements
  • Manages aspects of the non-conforming material (NCM) process – disposition, transactions, and reporting
  • Completes First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR)
  • Performs audits to factory processes and the products that have been built  
  • Follows all company safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment 

Shift: Monday - Friday 8:00AM to 5:00PM, plus overtime as necessary. There is flexibility for an earlier shift start time. 

Qualifications 
  • 2+ years of experience as a Quality Technician, or Manufacturing/Process Technician, or as Senior Quality Inspector
  • Experience with measurement of precision mechanical and optical components/assemblies, using micrometers, calipers, go/no-go gauges, microscopes, optical comparators, etc. required.
  • Ability to use and identify measurement errors of the inspection equipment including CMM or Optical measurement tool, and providing solutions
  • Ability to wear cleanroom attire and required Personal Protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods of time.
  • Experience with inspection of components for laser diode assemblies and fiber optics preferred.
  • Ability to be proactive, to anticipate and provide solutions to business needs, and meet tight deadlines. 
  • Ability to work with others in a professional and collaborative manner
  • Meticulous attention to detail, highly organized and self-motivated 
  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector preferred
  • ERP system transactions knowledge is required.
  • ISO 9001 experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to protect confidential and proprietary information.
  • Ability to read and interpret Engineering Drawings
  • Strong commitment to quality and continuous improvement
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office programs such as Excel, Access etc.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Starting pay depends on qualifications:

  • Quality Technician II - $23.46 to $29.30 per hour
  • Senior Quality Technician III - $25.50 to $28 per hour
  • Target Cash Bonus with potential payout of up to 2% of your wages  
  • 80 hours of paid Vacation per year, plus paid Sick Leave and 10 paid Holidays  
  • Vacation increases 8 hours annually, up to a maximum of 120 hours per year
