Position: Sr. Systems Engineer (Timing)

Status: Full-time/Permanent (C2C Contract-to-contract unavailable)

Location: Sunnyvale/San Francisco Bay Area, CA (Hybrid)

This position is for a Senior/Staff Systems Engineer (Timing) working on the development of algorithms for a timing receiver, algorithm optimization using simulations and extensive field data, and working with Software/Firmware teams to implement the algorithms as well as verifying and demonstrating the timing performance on the receiver platform.

  • $138k - $186k base

Education & Experiences:

  • MS or PhD (preferred) in EE/ECE with emphasis in Signal Processing/Communications.
  • 3+ years of experience in design and implementation of advanced signal processing algorithms
  • Solid foundation in probability, statistics, and random processes, estimation & detection, communication theory, signal processing, control theory

Responsibilities:

  • Develop algorithms to estimate time and frequency using the time of arrival from one or more terrestrial radio navigation signals using various signal processing techniques
  • Develop and implement frequency and phase locked loop to control an oscillator based on the time and frequency estimates
  • Perform performance simulations to check for the stability and robustness of the time and frequency estimates
  • Develop and implement key computational/control algorithms for target hardware platforms
  • Support design, implementation, and testing of various algorithms on a receiver
  • Perform timing performance analysis for prototype/product timing receiver such as through analysis of field tests, customer data

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, math background
  • Good understanding of cellular communication systems such as LTE/5G and satellite PNT systems such as GNSS system, receiver implementation experience is a plus
  • Understanding and optimization of algorithm implementation complexity for target hardware platforms
  • Proficient with algorithm development and performance analysis using Matlab. .
  • Ability to work independently and within a team or across multiple teams (such as hardware, software, test) to deliver prototype/product solution

Desired Skills:

  • Understanding of timing distribution based on ITU timing standards (e.g. ITU-T G.8272, ITU-T G.8272.1), IEEE PTP v1/v2 (including GM, BC, TC), optical fiber
  • Understanding of clock/oscillator types (e.g. OCXO, SuperOCXO, Rb, Cesium) and stratum levels
  • Working experience with lab equipment such as RF signal generator, spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope, time interval counters
  • Knowledge of C programming for algorithm implementation
