DevOps Engineer

About the Position

As a DevOps Engineer at New York Public Radio, you will design and build infrastructure to improve reliability, resiliency, and performance of our websites and ancillary systems. You will also contribute to developer happiness on a lean, friendly engineering team with a DevOps culture that values collaboration, constant improvement, and constructive feedback.

You’re always thinking about security, scaling, and backups. You’re always looking for a single point of failure. But you’re also excited to work on internal tools that accelerate development, simplify operations, and enable all employees to contribute to the product.


  • Implement infrastructure to support new features being developed
  • Keep infrastructure secure and reliable
  • Establish and maintain DevOps best practices within the team
  • Maintain and extend CI system (we use CircleCI)
  • Work on internal tools to support operations
  • Work to resolve, mitigate and prevent system outages
  • Contribute to application development projects
  • Partner with developers on incident investigations and post-mortems
  • Work collaboratively with developers, product and operations team to successfully deliver on company and department goals


  • At least two years of relevant experience
  • Excellent grasp of Cloud Infrastructure Provider concepts, and experienced managing AWS with Terraform
  • Experienced with Python or similar language
  • Solid understanding of Docker or similar containerization technologies
  • Experience with configuration management
  • Strong debugging skills
  • Solid foundation in modern security practices

Additional Role Information

This is a full-time role with a salary range of $120,000-$140,000 per year (plus a full benefits package). Salary offer within this range is determined by skills, experience and organizational pay equity. New York Public Radio offers excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance, vacation, personal and sick time as well as parental leave.

This role is currently operating in a primarily remote capacity but the selected candidate will have the option to work from the office if fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless NYPR has approved a specific religious or medical exemption in advance of the first day of work.  At this time, NYPR defines being fully vaccinated as having received two Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccinations or one Johnson and Johnson vaccination.

This role, if desired by the selected candidate, could remain remote.
