Senior Director of Corporate and Event Development
New York Public Radio, a premier public media organization, seeks a dynamic and strategic leader to serve as the Senior Director of Corporate and Event Development. This newly created position is a pivotal growth opportunity for NYPR, emphasizing corporate philanthropy and special events as key components of its development strategy. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer and serving as a member of the fundraising development leadership team, the SD will play a critical role in shaping this forward-leaning strategy and driving ambitious growth from $3M today to $10M over the course of the near-term strategic plan.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for corporate philanthropy and event-based fundraising that aligns with NYPR's mission and strategic goals.
- Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer and development leadership team to integrate corporate and event initiatives into the broader fundraising framework.
- Establish and grow a sustainable pipeline of corporate partners and event sponsors to maximize revenue and engagement opportunities.
Corporate Philanthropy
- Cultivate and steward relationships with current and prospective corporate donors to secure transformational gifts and sponsorship.
- Create tailored engagement opportunities for corporate partners, including sponsorship and underwriting, cause marketing, corporate membership, and employee engagement.
- Develop innovative approaches to align corporate giving with NYPR's programming, events, and community initiatives.
Event Fundraising
- Together with the CSE team, plan, execute, and grow NYPR’s annual gala, ensuring it achieves ambitious fundraising, engagement, and brand-awareness goals.
- Launch a peer-to-peer fundraising program with long-term goals and KPIs.
- Oversee the development and execution of other signature fundraising, cultivation, and stewardship events that elevate NYPR’s profile and attract new supporters.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to create and lead an organization-wide integrated event strategy.
Team Management and Collaboration
- Build and lead a 2-person team responsible for corporate and event development, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
- Partner with staff and volunteer stakeholders to develop cohesive strategies that amplify NYPR’s events and corporate fundraising efforts.
- Act as a visible and effective ambassador for NYPR with donors, sponsors, and the broader community.
Metrics and Reporting
- Establish clear performance metrics and regularly assess progress toward financial and engagement goals.
- Provide detailed reporting and analysis to the Chief Development Officer and executive leadership, ensuring transparency and accountability.
- Stay abreast of trends and best practices in corporate philanthropy and event fundraising to inform strategy and innovation.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in corporate philanthropy, event fundraising, or a related field, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role. Experience in public media a plus.
- Demonstrated success in securing five- to seven-figure corporate gifts and sponsorships.
- Proven expertise in planning and executing high-profile, large-scale fundraising events.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with a track record of building and motivating high-performing teams.
- Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and engage diverse stakeholders.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans and measurable results.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree or CFRE certification preferred
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required for events.
- Passion for public media and a deep commitment to NYPR’s mission and values.
Additional Information
This is a full-time role with a salary range of $165,000-180,000, annually (plus a full benefits package). Salary offered within this range is determined by skills, experience and organizational pay equity. New York Public Radio also offers comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, along with vacation time, personal days, sick time and parental leave.
This role is based in New York City (or the immediate metro area) and operates in a hybrid capacity. This individual is expected to work onsite at WNYC’s Manhattan headquarters at least 3 days a week.
