Per Diem Broadcast Engineer – The Greenspace

New York Public Radio, home to WNYC, WQXR, WNYC Studios, and The Greene Space, is seeking a Broadcast Engineer in our Programming Department. The Broadcast Engineer will focus on live programs in The Greene Space. The Broadcast Engineer reports to the VP, Original Programming.

The successful candidate will have a good sense of the New York Public Radio sound, some knowledge of New York Public Radio programs, superior attention to detail, and a background in audio production. 

Responsibilities

  • Operate the board during local and national live broadcasts, including regular live shows, special events, and fundraisers.
  • Comfortable with hybrid format for live events with live audiences
  • Operate Pro Tools at an expert, facile level.
  • Perform all functions related to operating equipment associated with the control room. This includes routing audio, ingest recording and audio editing.
  • Gather and edit actualities and ambient recordings.
  • Knowledge of using mixed minuses and ability to build them manually for remote guests or zoom calls
  • Clean up poor audio using iZotope RX
  • Design implementing scheme for live events for a recording and PA team
  • Knowledge of PA responsibilities as it relates to live events broadcast
  • Knowledge of broadcast loudness standards (PRS standard, ITU standard) & mixing to those standards
  • Participate in content editing meetings and listening sessions.
  • Manage and archive audio assets and session files.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of experience in radio and audio production
  • Familiarity with the sound of New York Public Radio or public radio generally
  • Fluency in audio editing, knowledge of live on-air board protocols and other systems for broadcast/digital delivery of audio
  • Experience using ISDN, AoIP or phone hybrids.
  • Experience with working with large console format analog audio consoles (API Vision)
  • Expertise with Pro Tools and IZotope RX
  • Familiarity with the broadcast bundle of Waves plug-ins
  • Willingness and ability to learn new skills and concepts as necessary.
  • Ability to work within a highly collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Information
Compensation: $42 per hour. 

This role is based in New York City and is expected to work onsite at New York Public Radio’s  SoHo headquarters during live programs. 

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between New York Public Radio and SAG-AFTRA.
