Your Opportunity

New Relic is looking for an experienced architect to help design and build the next generation of instrumentation agents and integrations. If you have a passion for high-throughput (petabyte-scale!) data-ingest and processing, this may be the right job for you.

New Relic's Instrumentation teams build the software that lives in a customer's environment to capture their observability data. This includes our agents, integrations and now our OpenTelemetry SDKs as well. In this role, you will have a key part to play in helping customers easily push data from any source into New Relic One.

What You’ll Do

You will work with our agent teams to create awesome new ways for our customers to send data to our platform. Our agents are all open source, so you'll be interacting not only with our engineers but also engineers from our growing open source community. As the OpenTelemetry specification matures, many of our agents will be redesigned to send data in the OTLP format. You will be there to help guide our teams through this transition and help our customers make the best use of these new technologies.

We have a globally distributed development organization with teams spanning a nine-hour swath of timezones. The only way to keep all those teams in sync is through written communications. You'll need to harness your excellent communication skills to facilitate a high level of collaboration.

Your Qualifications

  • 5+ years of technical leadership with high-performance engineering teams
  • Experience designing, delivering, and operating high-scale distributed systems
  • Collaborative and able to successfully navigate dependencies between multi-functional teams within the organization to deliver results
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with OpenTelemetry (maintainer or approver status would be awesome!)
  • Experience with Observability platforms
  • Experience with Open Source development
  • An advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a STEM field
  • Full-stack knowledge of distributed systems fundamentals
  • Experience in one or more of the following: Containers (Docker, Kubernetes), Java, Javascript, .Net, Go, Ruby, Python, PHP, C, OpenTelemetry, Open Instrumentation, Prometheus
