The Polymer Process Engineer position is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic industry and support the operations of a state-of-the-art nonwovens facility at New Pig Corporation. This position will be responsible for safely managing, operating, improving, and maintaining industrial extrusion production equipment on a production scale.
 
The Polymer Process Engineer provides technical support for nonwoven production operations. This position is expected to achieve specified company goals for the performance of the line in different categories. This role will analyze the operation of the machinery and implement process equipment and procedural changes to continually improve the areas of safety, quality, and productivity. The Polymer Process Engineer works in conjunction with other departments to achieve these goals.
 
Primary Responsibilities 
  • Manage, lead, coach and develop production team of 20-40. Continuously work to improve team performance towards company objectives.
  • Maintain safe working environment for employees
  • Work with Quality Assurance team to investigate quality concerns and issues
  • Ensure production machinery and QA testing lab are kept in good and safe working order
  • Maintain and continually impose ISO, Compliance, Lean, and other standards
  • Conduct process/equipment/materials trials. Support experimental trials for product development, utilizing DoE methods.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for product and quality requirements
  • Manage orders and inventories of equipment, tools, materials and supplies for Nonwovens operations
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure their usage
  • Identify issues, determine possible solutions, troubleshoot proactively. Work with process/maintenance/engineering teams to solve issues timely and accurately. 
  • Actively evaluate and address process deviations and significant shifts in targets or variations of output data
  • Track downtime, quality performance, machine efficiency and other KPIs necessary to drive continual improvements
  • Respond to quality and process issues in a timely fashion
  • Schedule, plan, manage activities related to downtimes that must be completed between production cycles
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in safety, quality, and productivity
  • Support validations of processes and qualifications of equipment
  • Visually inspect all areas of the production line daily
  • Maintain QA test standards and continually monitor test data for corrections
  • Document and manage Work Instructions and equipment recipes for ISO compliance
  • Maintain consistency of equipment setup and actions between shifts and employees
 
 
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Respond to system/equipment failure issues that arise during production cycles or when conducting nonwovens process trials; manage internal/external resources to resolve issues quickly
  • Implement and manage training and retraining program
  • Plan for and ensure regular housekeeping of specific production areas
  • Participate in daily KPI (Key Performance Indicators) meetings for reporting and addressing process issues
  • All other duties as assigned or directed
 
 
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of relevant experience working in manufacturing environment
  • Degree in Polymer Science and Process Engineering or Materials Science and Process Engineering (MSE)
  • Must be available Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, and additional hours as required by business demands
  • Must be available for call-in and/or on-call support
  • Valid PA driver’s license. Passport for international travel.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in nonwovens and/or paper technologies, extrusion, textiles, fibers or web material handling. Experience with fiber or nonwoven making and testing equipment in a lab and/or production environment.
  • Manufacturing and materials lab testing experience/training related to: absorbents, fibers, melt blown, textiles or other processes. Working knowledge of consumer product converting technologies helpful.
  • Experience using CAD or equivalent software for mechanical/electrical design
  • Applied experience with hydraulics, industrial electricity, electronics, and control systems
  • Experience operating lift trucks, clamp trucks, scissor lifts, articulated boom lifts, etc.
  • Experience with MS Office applications
 
Other Qualifications
  • Ability to identify and resolve standard/routine problems with nonwovens process equipment through routine inspection, preventive maintenance, and basic testing
  • Ability to operate nonwovens process equipment according to standard operating procedures, define problems and troubleshoot problems with operations team
  • Must be self-directed and a self-starter, capable of utilizing time efficiently
  • Adaptable, responsible, accountable
  • Ability to develop and utilize advanced mathematical functions
  • Understanding and maintaining confidentiality as required
  • Competency in mechanical skills. Ability to learn control systems. Use of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently, with or without a reasonable accommodation
