Job Description / Role Summary
The Data Modeler is responsible for designing, governing, and optimizing the data models required to migrate analytical and operational workflows from Alteryx into Azure Synapse. This role focuses on conceptual, logical, and physical modelling across Synapse SQL, Data Lake storage structures, and transformation pipelines. The Data Modeller ensures the models support performant analytics and align with enterprise architectural standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models for Synapse.
- Translate Alteryx workflows and datasets into optimized Synapse-ready schema structures.
- Produce metadata, data dictionaries, and source‑to‑target mappings.
- Support model validation with SMEs and engineering stakeholders.
- Ensure data models adhere to governance, RLS, and performance requirements.
- Guide implementation of models across Synapse SQL pools and ADLS.
- Profile data, define quality rules, and support reconciliation validation.
- Maintain modelling documentation and reusable enterprise assets.
Required Experience
- 7+ years in enterprise data modelling.
- Strong experience with Synapse SQL, SQL Server, and ADLS.
- Experience translating Alteryx workflows into structured data models.
- Expertise in dimensional, normalized, semantic, or data vault modelling.
- Proficiency with modelling tools (ER/Studio, ERwin, SQL DBM, etc.).
Preferred Skills
- Comfort with Lakehouse concepts and metadata governance tools.
- Strong facilitation skills for on‑site collaboration.
