Requirements and responsibilities

What you'll do:

• Contribute to the design and implementation of our newly established Platform Automation tools, focusing on enhancing our platform monitoring capabilities and ensuring robust automated deployment and management of Instinet's trading systems.
  
• Collaborate with other DevOps Engineers to refine and expand the functionality of our platform automation framework, with an emphasis on reliability, scalability, and efficiency.
  
• Support the continuous improvement of our application stack's monitoring to identify and remediate issues in real-time, enhancing the overall health and performance of our trading systems.
  
• Participate in guiding the firm towards best practices in DevOps culture, with a focus on automation, continuous improvement, and operational resilience.
  
• Identify opportunities for simplifying the deployment and containerization of our application stack, leveraging modern technologies and methodologies to achieve this goal.
  
• Act as a technical advocate, fostering collaboration across development, operations, and infrastructure disciplines, and advocating for engineering best practices across the firm.

What you'll bring:

• Strong development skills in Python, with a thorough understanding of best practices, build tooling, and testing frameworks. Knowledge of Java is beneficial, given the Java-based nature of our trading systems.
  
• Experience with application observability tools such as Elastic/OpenSearch, Prometheus, AlertManager, enhancing the monitoring and alerting capabilities of complex systems.
  
• Proficiency in infrastructure automation and configuration management technologies (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet), facilitating the streamlined operation and management of our trading platforms.
  
• Solid understanding of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery methodologies, with hands-on experience in tools like GitLab and Jenkins.
  
• Competence in Linux/Unix-based operating systems and familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker), supporting the efficient deployment and operation of our services.
  
• Working knowledge of distributed version control systems, particularly git, to collaborate effectively within our engineering ecosystem.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience with automated testing, especially at the functional and integration levels, to ensure the reliability and quality of our deployments.
  
• Familiarity with the financial services industry, particularly automated trading systems, providing valuable insights into the unique challenges and opportunities in this sector.
  
• Exposure to cloud computing providers, such as AWS, to leverage cloud-based solutions for scalability and resilience.
  
• Understanding of security best practices, including key rotation, data encryption, and the principle of least privilege, to maintain the integrity and confidentiality of our trading systems.
