NCU is currently seeking a dynamic individual to become part of our School of Health Science team as the Program Director, Nursing. 

The Program Director - Nursing is responsible for the program execution/development, accreditation and oversight and management of faculty/team members in the Department of Nursing. The Program Director is responsible for measuring accountability, developing and implementing action plans, providing extensive daily feedback regarding operations, ensuring that guidance is standardized and meets Northcentral University quality expectations, communicating with internal stakeholders, and reporting status to the Dean. The Program Director will also be responsible for answering questions about various components of the Nursing degree programs and overseeing the resolution of student complaints. This position requires intensive interaction with full-time administrative and teaching faculty and many other internal stakeholders. The Program Director must be comfortable providing substantive, critical feedback to team members.

Essential Functions

  • Assist with the development and implementation of goals and strategies consistent with School operational needs.
  • Assist with the initial deliverables for nursing accrediting bodies.
  • Assist with program related report preparation.
  • Prepare for on-site annual reviews by accrediting bodies.
  • Maintain appropriate contact with accrediting bodies to ensure program compliance.
  • Work collaboratively to develop and manage assessment to be compliant with university policies and programmatic accreditors.
  • Oversee and direct the daily activities of the department faculty and staff (fulltime and part-time teaching faculty, academic advisors, and/or other team members).
  • Oversight of scheduling and prioritizing of work assignments, handling performance evaluations and training requirements.
  • Provide frequent, timely, critical communication and feedback regarding Department operations as needed (e.g., program operations, protocol, policy, and procedures, consultation calls, curriculum development, training, etc.).
  • Supporting development, planning, reporting and evaluation of School activities, goals, and procedures.
  • Participating in development and planning related to Department of Nursing budget.
  • Working collaboratively with the Dean to establish protocol for continuous improvement.
  • Communicating, a minimum of weekly, with the Dean regarding Department operations, quality issues and other overarching management matters.
  • Responds to student questions and concerns promoted beyond Program Director level.
  • Addresses all Student Grade Appeals through consultation with the Dean as needed.
  • Reviews and processes Academic Integrity Violations.
  • Develop and follow Annual Program Reviews (APR) and strategic planning cycle for Nursing degree programs.
  • Maintains professional development through membership and participation with state, regional, and national associations, presentations at professional conferences, and continued involvement in academic and clinical research leading to scholarly publications.
  • Participates as a member of the leadership team for the School of Health Sciences.
  • Participates in University committees, completes additional assignments, and special projects at the discretion of the Dean, the Provost, and the President, as needed.
  • Represent the Dean in her absence when required.
  • Reasonable and consistent attendance to fulfill requirement of the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the nursing discipline.
  • Strong knowledge in new nursing program development.
  • Knowledge of the accreditation process for nursing programs.
  • Knowledge of online nursing programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of academic and business workings of a higher education institution.
  • Knowledge of nursing educational culture in an online environment.
  • Knowledge of nursing specialized accreditation (AACN, CCNE).
  • Knowledge of local, state, and national nursing procedures.
  • Knowledge of current trends in nursing education and administration.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population.
  • Ability to apply essential principles of supervision and managerial activity, basic human resources operations, strategic and program planning, program and curriculum planning, development, and evaluation, technology implementation.
  • Ability to organize and direct work efforts and manage several competing priorities.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication, capability to receive and give direction.
  • Ability to communicate clearly to a variety of constituents in a diverse work environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Dean.
  • Ability to foster teamwork and a positive environment across programs in the SHS.
  • Ability to communicate online including e-mail, chat rooms, videoconferencing and other technology-based communication media.
  • Ability to make presentations and represent the Department of Nursing in various media when called upon.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Skill in operating equipment, such as personal computer, fax, copier, phone system.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and other applications in the Microsoft Office suite.

Education and Experience

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, DNP) with a focus in Nursing or a closely related profession from a regionally accredited institution required; AACN or CCNE accreditation strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience facilitating courses in an online environment.
  • Experience with program development and evaluation required.
  • Experience with curriculum development required.
  • Demonstrated teaching and service record in higher education required.
  • Experience as a clinical educator or site visitor preferred and encouraged.
  • Experience supervising professional faculty and staff, including planning, organizing, directing and evaluating on a daily basis.
  • Demonstrated experience as a team leader.
  • Expertise working in a technology-driven enterprise preferred.
  • All skills, abilities and education will be considered for minimum qualifications.

Working Conditions

This position operates in a remote, home office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and phones.
