Summary: The Accountant works collaboratively with colleagues and across the Council to carry out shared goals and objectives.
The Accountant is primarily responsible for supporting the operating functions of the Council by processing cash receipts, accounts payable, and expense reporting, and providing training in Ramp.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

- Consult with and keep supervisor informed on the status of all projects.
- Build coalitions internally and externally (with peers, team members, Member Boards, volunteers, collateral and associated organizations, etc.) to share best practices and achieve common goals.

Core Responsibilities – Directorate Specific
Accounts Payable
- Responsible for processing travel expenses in Ramp. complete understanding of company travel policies for application to all expenses.
- Responsible for ensuring that invoices for purchases, travel expenses, leases, loans, etc., are processed in the Accounting software, including communicating with the vendors as and when needed, and payment to vendors within prescribed deadlines, including printing of checks and mailing them to vendors. within prescribed deadlines.
- Issue RAMP accounts to volunteers and staff
Expense Reporting Training
- Provide instructions to new hires on what is required to complete expense reporting.
- Review travel policy and guidelines.
Payroll
- Serve as the primary backup for biweekly payroll processing and communicate with (a) other employees across the Council and (b) the payroll company as needed.
General Ledger
- Post monthly general journal entries as needed. Working on and supporting other personnel in the Accounting Department to work on the month-end close and post monthly general journal entries as needed.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; or, combination of substantial related experience, training, and education may substitute.
- 3 or more years of relevant experience in an accounting environment or similar work setting that includes accounts receivable, accounts payable or other entry-level accounting work is preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency using technology and a wide variety of software applications to include accounting software and reporting tools.
