The role at a glance:
NBBJ is seeking an experienced Architectural Technologist / Architectural Technician to join our London Studio, contributing to the delivery of complex, high-performance buildings across a range of Science, Education and Healthcare projects. Working as part of NBBJ’s integrated team, the role focuses on translating design intent into coordinated, buildable and regulation-compliant technical designs, supporting projects from technical design through to construction and handover. The successful candidate will bring UK specific expertise in construction, detailing, specification writing and regulations, while embracing NBBJ’s culture of collaboration, innovation and design excellence.
The position is available as permanent or as a temporary contract (with potential to convert).
In your new role, you will:
- Contribute to the technical design and delivery of projects across RIBA Stages 3 to 6, with a focus on detailed design development and coordination
- Apply technical judgement to resolve design and construction challenges, priorities and potential conflicts with design intent
- Work independently but consulting with the Project Architect or Project Leader on key issues
- Translate architectural design concepts into robust technical drawings, details, schedules and specifications, ensuring clarity, buildability and performance
- Develop and coordinate NBS Chorus specifications (Uniclass2015) aligned with drawings, consultant information and NBBJ Standards
- Create drawn information in sketch, 2D CAD and 3D BIM-led (Revit) workflows, ensuring alignment with project standards and consultant inputs
- Review contractor submittals, shop drawings and samples for compliance with the design intent and specification
- Respond to RFIs, issue technical clarifications, and support the design change process during construction
- 5+ years of professional experience working in a UK practice delivering medium to large-scale projects (ideally in the Science, Education and/or Healthcare sectors)
- Past success working with large or complex teams (clients, their agent, sub-consultants and suppliers)
- Strong working knowledge of UK Building Regulations, British Standards, CDM and construction best practice
- Demonstratable experience in construction detailing, construction materials and assemblies
- Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit for technical design and documentation
- Experience in preparing, coordinating and maintaining NBS Chorus specifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative suite
- Experience on-site, observing and commenting on level of quality, detailing and finishes
- Willing to travel to project sites both inside and outside of the M25, depending on project location
