Job Duties:
STAFF EDUCATION
· Conducts systematic assessments of learning, competency, and development needs across clinical, administrative, operational, and support departments.
· Designs, coordinates, delivers, and evaluates orientation, annual education, regulatory training, competency programs, and department-specific learning.
· Uses adult-learning principles, instructional design standards, and multiple delivery methods, including classroom, virtual, simulation, coaching, and self-directed learning.
· Partners with subject-matter experts and department leaders to ensure content is accurate, current, relevant, and aligned with hospital policies and applicable requirements.
· Supports employee onboarding and role-specific learning plans for new hires, transfers, leaders, students, and other designated workforce members.
· Creates accessible instructional materials, job aids, facilitator guides, competency tools, and digital learning resources.
· Provides coaching and hands-on instruction to individuals or groups to enhance their skills, knowledge, and performance in specific areas, ensuring practical understanding and effective application of concepts.
· Schedules learning opportunities across shifts and locations to maximize access and participation.
· Promotes a professional, inclusive learning environment that encourages participation and knowledge sharing.
· Measures course effectiveness and uses feedback and outcome data to improve education.
STAFF FOLLOW-UP
· Evaluates individual, department, and organization-wide learning outcomes and develops follow-up plans when expectations are not met.
· Coordinates remediation, refresher training, coaching, reassessment, and escalation with leaders and appropriate subject-matter experts.
· Monitors completion and understanding of required education and communicates risks, barriers, and overdue requirements to accountable leaders.
· Collaborates with Human Resources, Quality, Risk, Compliance, Infection Prevention, Information Technology, Safety, and department leaders to address identified learning needs.
· Documents follow-up actions and evaluates whether education resulted in sustained knowledge, skill, behavior, process, or outcome improvement.
DEPARTMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES
· Maintains accurate, current, and confidential education records, attendance data, competency documentation, course materials, and required reports.
· Administers assigned functions of the learning-management system, including course assignment, rosters, completions, transcripts, reminders, and reporting.
· Maintains an annual education calendar and coordinates rooms, technology, instructors, supplies, and communication.
· Prepares dashboards and reports on participation, completion, competency, evaluation results, overdue requirements, and improvement actions.
· Maintains standardized education processes and templates while supporting department-specific customization.
· Manages education resources responsibly and identifies needs for equipment, simulation supplies, licenses, and learning technology.
· Demonstrates flexibility in work hours and teaching schedules to support all shifts and hospital operations.
· Participates in audits, readiness activities, committees, and improvement initiatives related to workforce education and competency.

· Partners with policy owners and subject-matter experts to translate new or revised hospital policies, procedures, standards, and workflows into effective education and competency validation.
· Ensures education content reflects current legal, regulatory, accreditation, safety, privacy, compliance, and hospital requirements.
· Communicates education requirements and implementation timelines to affected departments and maintains evidence of completion.
QUALITY
· Serves as a change agent by identifying, planning, implementing, and measuring education strategies that support safe, reliable, patient-centered care and effective hospital operations.
· Uses audit findings, safety events, employee feedback, performance data, regulatory priorities, and leadership input to identify learning needs.
· Supports standard work, evidence-based practices, and consistent competency validation across departments.
· Evaluates the effect of education on knowledge, skills, behaviors, compliance, service, safety, and organizational outcomes.
· Participates in corrective action plans and sustainment activities when education is an identified intervention.
LEADERSHIP
· Advises leaders on education strategy, competency development, change adoption, and methods for addressing identified performance or compliance gaps.
· Provides guidance, resources, coaching, and train-the-trainer support to leaders, educators, preceptors, subject-matter experts, and designated instructors.
· Coordinates education for new or changing services, systems, equipment, technologies, regulations, and workflows.
· Participates in hospital committees, accreditation readiness, strategic initiatives, workforce development activities, and special projects as assigned.
· Communicates effectively across Nashville General Hospital to advance shared goals and reduce variation in education practices.
· Identifies organizational barriers to learning and collaborates with leaders to implement sustainable solutions.
· Supports accurate reporting and documentation for licensing, certification, accreditation, regulatory, grant, and contractual education requirements.
· Models ethical, consistent, fair, timely, and decisive conduct in accordance with organization-wide policies and values.
· Performs other duties as assigned to support hospital-wide education, competency, readiness, and workforce development.
Certification & Licensures/ Education:
Master’s degree-Education, Organizational Development, Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Allied Health, Business, or related field Preferred
Bachelor’s degree-Nursing, Required
Basic Life Support (BLS) Preferred; required when assigned duties involve direct clinical skills education or patient-care environments.
Additional Certification & Licensure Details:
ActiveTN nursing license or compact state, Required
BLS Instructor, Preferred
ACLS Instructor, Preferred
PALS Instructor, Preferred
TNCC Instructor, Preferred
Five years of progressive experience in healthcare education, professional development, organizational development, training, competency management, or a closely related field — Required.
