Description

The staff therapist is responsible for providing and performing both basic and advanced therapeutic procedures.

High School Diploma (Equivalent) or Higher - Required

Additional education requirements:
Graduate of a Respiratory Care program accredited by the Committee on Accreditation Respiratory Care or having passed a National Board Respiratory Care Exam or its equivalent.

BLS - Required
ACLS- Required
NEO RESUS - Required

Additional Certification & Licensures details:
A
ctive license as a Certified Respiratory Therapist.

Additional experience requirements:
Previous respiratory therapy experience preferred.

Job Duties:

Administers Respiratory Therapy Care and life support as requested by physician

  • Properly evaluates lung/breath sounds. Properly evaluates therapeutic objectives
  • Reviews charts for new orders and patient history on a timely basis
  • Provides Bronchoscopy assistance

Management of the airways

  • Performs arterial puncture including sample collection. Evaluates ventilator function in relation to blood gases. Checks ventilator patients at three hour intervals or as needed; makes a complete check of equipment functions. EST or SSI ventilators between patients.
  • Performing oxygen setups and rounding on oxygen patients. Performing aerosol treatments, scanning medications, and dispensing meds from Acudose. Setup and monitors CPAP/BIPAP and Pulse oximetry

Provides a safe environment according to established hospital policies and procedures

  • Consistently utilizes Universal Precautions and adheres to Infection Control policies and blood borne pathogen guidelines
  • Routinely checks patients ID bracelet prior to administration of medications, treatments and/or procedures
  • Maintain a safe level of cylinders on floors and department.
  • Routinely maintains a safe and clean work area to promote patient and visitor satisfaction.

Strives to improve the overall effectiveness of the department

  • Accepts job responsibilities by adhering to policies/procedures, dress code, attendance guidelines and uses paid leave time appropriately. Uses work time productively; limits personal phone calls, personal written communication, visitors, etc., to break and meal times. Demonstrates flexibility in working hours, shifts schedules and patient assignments in order to meet staffing requirements. Keeping the Dirty Room clean. Stock floors daily on your shift.
  • Accepts responsibility for attending staff meetings, reviewing staff minutes and all other department communication.
  • Follows established procedure for schedule changes, special time and vacation requests and return to work slips.
