Plant Maintenance Manager - Kline’s Island Wastewater Treatment Plant


If you are interested in a long and rewarding career with a dynamic organization that provides opportunities to learn and grow, then look no further!  Lehigh County Authority is seeking a Plant Maintenance Manager to support the Kline’s Island Wastewater Treatment Plant.  As a key member of our team, you’ll play an active role in a variety of responsibilities including supervising maintenance staff, hiring, scheduling, audits, inspections, maximizing the service life of plant equipment, ensuring operational readiness and safety, and will be highly involved in projects, oftentimes working as a liaison between contractors and plant operations. 

We are seeking candidates with a strong mechanical background, including PLC experience, and excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.  As this position requires work both in office and in the plant, you must be organized and able to multitask and adjust course throughout the day to address urgent issues.  Ability to lead a team through coaching, training, and development of staff is imperative, as is the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.  Prior experience in a union environment would be helpful.

What the Job Looks Like
Typically, the schedule for this position will be Monday-Friday day shift hours, with availability for emergency call out required.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee and direct maintenance personnel, equipment installation, facilities equipment repair, and preventative maintenance.
  • Reads and studies plant operating and maintenance manuals in order to generate PM’s and work orders.
  • Identify and implement changes needed to produce maintenance cost reductions.
  • Inspect and evaluate the physical plant, grounds, and all relevant equipment.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors to perform activities, repairs, preventative maintenance on building equipment, and building and grounds appearance.
  • Manage staff performance and activities for maintaining all plant machinery to ensure safe, continual, and efficient operations.
  • Manage maintenance goal setting, activity scheduling, and work allocation to ensure measurable goals, proper workload distribution, goal satisfaction, and effective staff management.
  • Establishes corrective and emergency maintenance procedures.
  • Prepares and manages the yearly budget for the Maintenance Department.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Important Qualifications to your Success

  • Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent required; Engineering degree or formal electrical/mechanical training preferred.
  • Experience: 3 years of experience in maintenance repair or repair by replacement work such as equipment, machinery, hydraulic and mechanical systems or electrical circuitry required. A strong mechanical background, including PLC experience are a must-have in this role. 
  • Licensure: Water/Wastewater Systems Operators course work and/or Certification preferred.
  • Skills: Strong computer skills with proficiency with Microsoft Office and CMMS, outstanding leadership abilities, and advanced interpersonal skills to successfully interact with all levels of the organization required.
