Electrician / Instrumentation Technician

Water/Wastewater Allentown, Pennsylvania

Description

Electrician / Instrumentation Technician

We’re hiring an Electrician / Instrumentation Technician at Lehigh County Authority in Allentown, PA, where your work helps keep critical water and wastewater systems running safely for the community.

It’s a steady, meaningful role with a lot of variety - you’re not just swapping parts - you figure out what’s wrong and fix it right the first time. You’d be a great fit for the role if you enjoy tracking down issues, solving tough problems, and keeping equipment running.

If you’re an experienced electrician who takes pride in strong troubleshooting and hands-on work, this is a role where you can really make an impact!

What the Job Looks Like
In this hands-on role, your work keeps critical systems running and makes a real difference in the community.  Day-to-day you’ll:
  • Maintain and troubleshoot electrical and control systems across treatment plants, pump stations, and facilities - helping ensure safe, uninterrupted operations.
  • Diagnose and repair complex equipment such as motors, pumps, VFDs, switchgear, and instrumentation systems, solving issues at their root - not just the surface.
  • Install and upgrade systems including panels, circuits, and control components - supporting modernization and long-term system reliability.
  • Work from schematics and develop solutions when documentation isn’t enough, using your expertise to keep systems functioning efficiently.
  • Collaborate across teams with operations, maintenance, and vendors to complete projects and resolve issues quickly and effectively.
  • Support preventive maintenance efforts by identifying trends and helping reduce future breakdowns and downtime.
  • Respond to on-call needs and emergencies, playing a key role in restoring critical services when it matters most.

What We’re Looking For
Ideal candidates bring strong electrical skills, a problem-solving mindset, and pride in doing meaningful work.  Requirements include:
  • Education: High school diploma or technical training (or equivalent hands-on experience in the field).
  • Experience: 5+ years as an electrician or hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems.
  • Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including 120V–480V and 3-phase power, with the ability to diagnose and fix complex issues.
  • Instrumentation & Controls: Experience with instrumentation (such as 4–20 mA, sensors, or VFDs) is a plus
  • Work Style: Able to work independently, take initiative, and think through problems w/o constant direction.
  • Reliability & Safety: Dependable and committed to high-quality work in physically demanding environments.
  • Schedule: M-F 6:00am - 2:30pm + an on-call rotation w/response when critical systems need attention.
