The Allentown Housing Authority is hiring a Comptroller to oversee our financial strategy allowing us to impact the lives of so many of our area residents.
What you’ll do
As our Comptroller you’ll exercise your analytical and organizational skills daily to oversee our agency’s accounting ensuring compliance with all program and audit requirements. Touching nearly everything we do, our Comptroller tackles a variety of critical tasks daily while communicating regularly with every department and leadership. Some of these tasks may include:
- Create, prepare, and analyze monthly/annual financial statements and reports, presenting your evaluation to the Executive Director and the Board
- Anticipate reporting needs and develop a deep understanding of data needed by the Executive Director and the Board to engage in financial reporting/discussions and make recommendations for action
- Build and foster a strong relationship with the technical BDO HUD accounting team
- Participate in HUD training and create and update policies and processes accordingly
- Lead a team of seasoned Accountants (2) and Clerk and identify, develop, and execute a training program to educate staff in areas of accounting and procurement
- Accurately prepare and submit annual budgets, VMS (Voucher Management System) reports, payroll, accounts payable (A/P), etc.
What you need to thrive in this role
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, MBA preferred
- HUD experience not necessary
- Previous audit experience helpful but not required
- Leadership experience overseeing a team/department
- Experience advising executive leadership team in financial matters
- Excellent communication skills
- Advanced critical thinking and analytical approach to leadership and financial matters
- Highly organized
- Technical proficiency in Excel and accounting software
