Job Summary
The Senior Coordinator of Spiritual Care offers spiritual guidance and pastoral care to patients, families and staff.  In addition to offering direct spiritual care, the lead staff chaplain acts as a manager supervisor. of the Spiritual Services department at Munson Medical Center and as a liaison to community hospital spiritual services.  Job responsibilities include supervising staff chaplains and PRN chaplains, connecting patients with their preferred faith tradition, interfacing with spiritual care volunteers and area clergy, working as an interdisciplinary team member, and offering supportive services for staff.
 
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Min/Preferred Education Level and/or Years of Experience

Master’s Degree
Master’s Degree from an accredited seminary or school of theology.

In good standing with candidate’s denominational authority.

4 Years Experience working with patients and family members dealing with a health crisis, responding to trauma, and death/dying experience. Pastoral experience applies towards this.

1 Year Hospital chaplain experience.
Training in grief counseling, crisis intervention, and / or basic mental health care.

Essential Duties
             Provides spiritual assessment of patients/families/caregivers in the inpatient setting when needed and appropriate services are rendered in a timely manner.
             Facilitates the development of the interdisciplinary team plan of care to meet identified spiritual needs.
             Provides direct spiritual care to patients/families/caregivers and/or reaches out to area clergy of preferred faith tradition.
             Serves as liaison and support to system chaplain roles and community clergy.
             Documents direct services and ongoing communication with community clergy.
             Provides assistance with planning periodic memorial services to meet the needs of staff or patients.
             Assist in the supervision and training of spiritual care volunteers who have been identified through their faith communities and processed through Munson Volunteer Services.
             Offers spiritual support to staff through services in the chapel, blessing of the hands on the units, distribution of ashes, and tending to the spirit events.
             Collaborate with and oversee specific aspects of therapies related to spiritual services, including but not limited to music therapy, animal therapy, etc.
             Hiring and supervising staff chaplains and PRN chaplains, signing off on timecards, and overseeing department spending.
             Attends patient care conference and interdisciplinary team meetings as a member of the interdisciplinary team when appropriate.
             Provides the interdisciplinary team with consultation, education, and support on spiritual care, grief counseling, or crisis intervention needs.
             Connects with community clergy and spiritual care volunteers to meet patient/family/caregiver needs by developing community contacts and offering education to congregations about Munson.
             Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

The position reports to the Vice President of Support Services.
