ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Minimum one-year emergency/urgent care/nursing assistant experience required or college education equivalent.
Maintains BCLS certification.
EMT licensure preferred.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Must possess the ability to evaluate the criticality of patient needs.
Must possess superior customer relation skills.
ORGANIZATION
Under the general supervision of the Department Director.
Works under the direction of a Registered Nurse and department coordinators.
Work subject to frequent interruptions.

- Performs direct patient care activities under the supervision of a registered nurse.
- Recognizes and reports pertinent change in health care status of patients to a registered nurse.
- Communicates with families concerning patients and provides support as needed.
- Assists patients with comfort measures.
- Observes, records and reports pertinent information accurately and promptly.
- Assists other health care professionals with procedures.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
- Utilizes standard precautions and applies infection control procedures employing medical asepsis principles.
- Answers telephone and accurately records and processes messages, except physicians’ orders.
- Coordinates patient flow, including greeting patient and family, transfer and discharge of patients, notification of appropriate departments via computer and or telephone.
- Obtains previous medical records as requested.
- Files reports, EKG’s, MARs, Patient Medication Profiles, etc. as appropriate.
- Records and facilitates patient transfers by accumulating charts and records, advising admitting and receiving units.
- Coordinates room processing with Environmental Services to ensure ready availability of vacancies.
- Performs multiple computer and clerical tasks: Files interdepartmental forms on appropriate charts, various other tasks as assigned by the Unit Manager.
- Maintains office inventory of forms and supplies on a weekly level and requisitions supplies from Distribution at specified intervals.
- Secretarial communication with physicians’ office staff.
- Answers patient call system: if applicable, documents need and notifies appropriate person.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
